if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.....i have a 01 mojave that turns over and doesent start......ive cleaned the carb.....it gets gas, and it is sparking...its got a supertrapp muffler on it and the airbox was leaking for a while.....it backfires sometimes but only out the exhaust....lik emaybe it has a burnt valve or something...but i dont know anything about it so i need some help....thanks

 

if it has spark and gas it should at least fire provided it has compression i would start by checking the compression since the air box was leaking and also how long has it sat before u tried to start it

 

well...its been out in the cold for a couple of weeks(in a garage) but ihavent yet tested for compression

 

You can start by adjusting the valves .008-.010 cold (wont run anyway).

The INTAKE valves on the Mojave are very soft and tend to sink into the seats, Once they sink the valve adjustment gets too tight and the valves never fully close. This causes low/no compression and hard starting.

If you find that the valves have sunk it's time for a valve job.

 

The airbox was leaking? as in, it was sucking in dust and dirt? If so, you probably wiped out the rings.

 

I had a similiar problem with my 2001 Mojave....I couldn't understand why it wouldn't start...I mean geez I was getting so tired of kicking that thing! Something just made me think take a look at the carb when I did the carb was not even touching the motor [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif[/img] after secured the carb to the motor she fired right up!! I guess some how while riding the bike it vibrated loose [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img]
