Wow, maybe it's time to take the winch off and give it a good going over. I also have the 2500 warn and I thought it was a sealed unit.

Scotia - you're right. I couldn't believe the water that came out. These are not sealed units by any means. I've heard that the Rule winches are waterproof marine-grade winches and do a much better job at keeping themselves clean. The downside is that they cost a bit more.
The disassembly on my 2500 was fairly simple. I'm going to make a point of doing it at least once per season. Maybe twice if I do a lot of mudding.
