Default P650 Front Brakes Questions

I went on a long ride Sunday afternoon, and about half way, I noticed my front brakes making some squealing/grinding noises. I babied it the rest of the day and only used front brakes when absolutely necessary until finishing the ride. Tore into it this evening and the front pads were toast, after only 800 miles. The good news is that I had a set on hand, that I had originally picked up for a buddy, who couldn't find any at the time he needed to replace his, (ironically, also about the 800 mile point). By the time I talked with him, he had some shipped in, so I just hung on to them figuring that I would be needing them soon enough. BTW, it is a real easy job to replace them; only takes about 10 min per side.

The question (1) is this: From other P650 owners experience, is that a normal interval to be wearing out the factory front brake pads or am I exceptionally hard on them?

And question (2): Do the aftermarket pads (which were "EBC BRAKES, Severe Duty Grade") last any longer than the factory pads? (Between my buddy and I, we talked to virtually every Kaw. dealer in northern KY, Western WV and southern OH, before I finally found a shop central OH that carried them; which were the aforementioned "EBC" brand, no one could even get Kawasaki replacements.

Just wondering......

That is about normal , really good if you ride in much mud , I got about 800 miles on my first set , my wifes 450 kodiak had to have all the pads replaced , front and back , they were down to the medal and it had less than 400 miles on it and I have a friend that has a vinsion and he had to replace his back pads when it had
a little under 300 miles on it.

Prairiepuppy: Thanks for the info, I plan on checking mine around 750 miles to see where they are. I have a set of the pads you have as back up in case I run into the same problem with dealer stock.

Can anyone tell me the best place to the the EBC pads at for the best price? My P650 is coming up on 800miles and I figure I should replace them before going to Hatfield this summer. Brakes are really nice on those trails.

my dealer sells them. I believe they have a kawi part number too. They weren't too expensive either.

I checked my dealer and they can get them. Forget how much they were though(nothing drastic). Just wondering if somewhere else had a better price. I personally rather buy from my dealer(try to keep a good relationship and make sure they know me). I'll probably end up getting them from there.

My didn't last 400 miles. I put on EPI severe duty pads and I am very pleased with them.

I ride a lot in the mountains here in Arkansas and replaced mine for the first time at 2200 miles. Guess the engine brake must help reduce the wear.
