Default Need help P650 KEBC Problem

I am having problems with what I believe is a KEBC problem. On takeoff if I try to go at a slow speed 5mph or less in low range or around 10mph or less in high range I hear an awful high pitch squawking noise coming from the KEBC area. Here is what I have discovered so far: It doesn't do this while in reverse going slowly or if the KEBC fuse is removed ( Forward or Reverse). Everything is perfectly normal under these conditions. If I accelerate quickly I don't hear it either. I have installed a new belt and set the belt deflection to .88 inches according to NYROC's recommendations. (Thanks NYROC, I frequent your site alot!!) I looked at the shop manual on page 16-60 under engine brake actuator inspection. I believe there is a misprint on the reading across 1(Orange) - 3(Blue) 3.5 ~ 6.5 ohms. This is across the outside legs of the potientiometer and mine reads ~ 5.1K ohms. I checked the reading on my friends new P650 03 and it reads the same as mine. Across 2 (Yellow) - 3 (Blue) mine reads 900 ohms and my friends reads 933 ohms. I have completely disassembled the brake actuator and can't find anything unusual. The manual also make it sound like anytime you are moving forward slowly it is braking (Page 1-16). Sorry I'm so long winded. Just wanted to supply enough info in order to get to the cause of the problem. Any suggestions would be appreaciated!

your bearing is shot on your clutch, the engine brake puts pressure on the bearing.

Thanks Kawi650! Do you know how much the bearing costs and how hard is it to replace?

mine went and Kawi replaced my clutch and gave me the protype clutch, (I'm wondering if this is going to be an issue if Kawi gives me back my old clutch or if Kawi will let me keep the clutch that's in it) and the bearing went with the old one I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Kawa650 tell me more about this protoype drive clutch, how different does it look from the standard one and is it an updated item that can be bought or is it in the testing stage?

I have been experiencing the same noise out of my clutch.. I hit around 6mph & the enginebraking cuts off & the noise is gone.. I took the cover off & ran it & the noise was gone, put the cover back on & the noise was back.. I always thought this noise was normal & part of the KEBC system.. One of my local dealers told me it was probably the bearing that the fork meets up with & that the noise was not normal.. I checked that bearing & it seems to be in tip top shape, no play & it turns without a hitch. Talked to another dealer today & they said some noise out of it is normal (but didn't know how much noise was normal) he told me go grease the upper part of the fork (above the spring where the motor connects) & that might help.. The prcie on that bearing for the P-360 is $65 & it comes with the whole plate that the bearing sits in (cant buy seperatly)

use only a little greese, I don't like any greese on mine because if it gets on your belt...

STAKK, this clutch is much better, I'm told by kawi to run it to the ground... now I'm having a hard time doing that. It looks the same but if you look at it closely you will see differences. I never got one squak from this protype clutch but I did get a vibration when it needed adjustments once. Never ran it in water yet but ran all winter and it's holding up a lot better. If it can last me a winter it GOOD because last winter I went through clutchs and belts, we were doing something almost on a weekly basis. Keep in mind except this winter I put the most miles on my bike and that's also when the bike is working the hardest.

I have no idea for availablity or if you will be able to upgrade to it. I'm running an 02, and I don't know when kawi plans on putting this clutch on the trail if it's already there. It's in testing stage.

Kawi650, thanks for the info, the reason I ask, is Sasquash said on another post that the dealer's have complained enough that they have designed a new driven clutch for the 650, If I read this right, which is the rear clutch that the belt deflection is adjusted with, Are you talking about your prototype clutch being the drive (front) clutch? that is what I was thinking, if I misunderstood I'm sorry, I hope they are designing new drive and driven clutch's.......

Kevlar, you described my problem well

I was going to go though the trouble of removing the fork so it didnt engage but Im curious now to your solution. I too felt the bearing and it didnt feel bad but....

Thanks
