650 Belt Question
#1
How long on the average should a belt last if not flogged too hard? I'm trying to convince my riding buddy to buy a Kawasaki. He says he's kinda hesitent because he has been told that the belt won't last very long.I knew to tell him about the red-black springs but he still wants to have some idea of belt life with a stock unit . Thanks for your help.

Mine has last 1400 miles/11 mo. of hard riding in the Appalachian Mts.(W.Va./S. OH.)
The belt should last at LEAST a year, with any care, and proper use of the tranny ranges. It is a very robust belt. Tell your friend not to worry.

Different riding styles, riding conditions and tire options make a huge difference on belt life. The black spring is a must install.
Check out nyroc's site for some do's and don'ts on extending belt life, very good points are noted there.
Some guys might get 500 miles, others might get 2000.

You will get 2000 or more with a tight belt, and the black spring, obeying most of the belt life rules.
you will get 500 or so if you don't adjust the new belt, and you don't get the spring, and you ride in high range everywhere.
I only have 700 on my new belt, but it is still tighty tighty, works like new. I know other people get a lot of miles with proper belt care.
