Default P650 Clutching Q's

Howdy all,. I'm going to install the black EPI spring this week and want to ask a couple questions .
First off, I have a slight knock coming from the belt area.(only at idle)I'm pretty sure that its the plastic buttons I've seen mentioned a time or two.Are these in the primary?I plan to change them while I'm in there.

Second, are there any other high-wear parts in there that would be a good idea to replace while everything is opened up??(like plastic slides on the driven)??

Lastly, what should I use in the way of cleaning solvents and grease to do the job with?I just want to be prepared to finish the job once I start it.I hate getting into something and then finding there's some stupid, inexpensive thing that I REALLY should have while I'm at it.

Any and all advice is appreciated lots.THX

Those "buttons" are in the drive clutch(on crankshaft). I clean the area with judicious use of brake parts cleaner, and compressed air. Be sure to look at the sheave faces for wear(grooves). Clean and re-grease the driven clutch sliding parts. Inspect those 4 pins in the helix, for wear. Be sure to use the correct grease in/on that helix area. I think it is Moly Grease, like CV joints use. Check the factory manual.
NYROC covers this well in his 650 site. Check it out! Good Luck!

What is the story with the "buttons"? I have the same noise at idle.

DirtyDawg, the buttons in the primary are on either side of the arms that hold the cam arms.(once you see it, its clear as mud)Basically, they wear as the cluctch moves in and out.Enough wear and we get that little knocking noise.

THX ,trx, I skimmed over Nyroc's site.Didn't notice the mention of what grease.Better look again to be sure , I 'spose.

kingmort--- I am 99.999% sure that the service manual calls for molydenum disulphide(SP?) Grease. That is what is used in automotive CV joints. Readily available at any auto parts store.

trx,,,thanks , already have the grease on my shelf , if that's the case.

Dirty Dawg, you replace the buttons, I haven't taken it apart yet, but I believe there are 6 of them. They shouldn't be a problem.I think they have a dowel pin on the backside of the button.Just pull 'em out and push the new in.

Dealer said my button's (wear pucks) were worn, everything else is good, there are 8 of them at about $8.30 a piece, OUCH 64 bucks to replace those little thing's, He's checking to see if warranty will cover them since everything else is good, If they weren't defective in the first place then all should be OK or everything should be worn out......

Kingmort:
Tell me about your "storage box" and where I might get one. My wife will be doing alot of riding with me. I saw one online that had a 2" cushion and bags on the sides and back. Just wondering what was out there. Thanks for any info. FisherDude
