Default Airbox noise

Well I took the 650 out for the first ride and noticed something a bit odd. When ever I start it and it is cold (like 20 deg. F) I can hear what sounds like the engine backfiring (very minor) into the airbox. Sounds like a deep pop, pop, pop, in the airbox (like a big gust of hot air is trying to pop the lid off). I didn't notice any problem once it was warmed up and we were riding, but it did stall out on my twice.
Also is a constant "whine" normal coming from the belt when riding. I was running in Low all day and never over 25mph but could always here it whining, not a squeek or squeel just a constant whine that gets a little louder as RPMs increase.
Thanks for the help!!
Scott

My P650 does the same pop in the airbox until the engine warms up - same for another I ride with - I think it is norma

as for the belt whine, the P650 definitely makes a whine noise, but it shouldn't overpower the roar of the powerplant that drives it! I noticed the whine too when I picked up the Kawi (I came from the Honda Foreman with no belt)

Hope this helps

Turn your pilot screws out to about 3-3 1/2 turns, this will reduce the popping. The tranny gears are straight cut instead of cut at an angle and will whine. It's normal.

Dumb question: How do I adjust the Pilot screws on the 650. I have rebuilt a motor but NEVER touched the carb except to remove it, a little scared of ruining a motor by screwing something up
Thanks for the info and now I feel better knowing mine is not having a problem and these things are fairly normal.
Thanks

Check Nyroc's webpage listed here on the forums...Look for "Jetting" article.
Also you may consider investing in a Kawasaki manual...$50.00 from most dealers.
Just my $.02 worth!!

It IS backfiring thru the carb(s). I just warm mine up well, on those cold mornings, while I "suit-up".
