Watch out for Dyno jet
#1
I just found out somthing interesting today. I have an 03 p650. I ordered a jet kit for it and they said that the 02 and 03 were the same. I just checked out the website and recently they just put up a kit for the 03 p650. I called them to see what the difference was and they said everything. The needles are different the 03 kit comes with springs were the 02 kit doesnt and it has a better variety of jets. I was like whats the deal? They said that K&N and Moose use there kits but evidentaly didnt know that 02 and 03 are different. I think i am going to just order the needles, instructions and springs for the 03 kit as it would be cheaper. The thing thats weird is my p650 runs like a champ. Maybe it will run better? I guess i will find out. This is basically just a warning so you guys dont have to find out the hard way like i did. So if you have an 03 stay away from the kits from moose and K&N unless they update the kit with the 03 model also. You know if it is right or not by the part number. On the instructions it will have a letter or letters then 210 or 215. The 210 is the 02 kit the 215 is the 03 kit.

The carbs are the same. They probably discovered that the original kits didn't work very well and redesigned it. They call it the '03 kit to cover their butts from everyone that bought the old '02 kit (like me)! If anyone can prove that, maybe they will exchange our old kits for the new one.

If you talk to Alltoys, he will tell you that Dynojets for the 650 are crap. He tried a LOT of different combinations with his Dynos and wound up going back to Keihin jets. I have 145/148 Keihin jets in my 650 right now and it is a power monster!! I'm glad I didn't use the Dyno's.

Mtecate4g,
Mastrblastr is right the DJ jets are not worth the powder to blow them you now where. They had a stage 1 kit that was mostly sold with muffler modds and intake modds there kit is in volume smaller than the stock jets that came with your quad 138 and 142. The new kit from DJ is equivalent to the stock jets with 3 more sizes to go up from but do not equal the volume the 145 and 148 combo in Keihin jets will deliver. I have said this repeatedly on this forum many times, DJ makes a good product they are designed for mid to high range performance with easier starting and idleing capabilities than the Keihins. The Keihins will out perform the Dj's right from the start there is no comparison. Anyone who has tried the two will tell you this. The new set from DJ is exactly what Nova exclaimed they are covering their colective butt.
If you get a chance to observe the difference between the 2 companys look at the needles especially then PM me I will tell you some more things you can do to get the better of both worlds with switching needles from one brand to another.

Actually i am afraid to change the kit. I spent numerous hours tuning it and now that it runs like Hang The F*** ON I dont want to change it. Then i am going to have to start the tuning all over. I mean i have this thing running so strong my brother thinks i am lying to him and have a different CDI or cams and pistons in it. I have to be careful when mudding the beast as when i am pinned going threw the mud i have to be ready to lift because if she grabs traction she'll flip on her butt quicker then you can say WTF! I cant pin it below 10mph on black top or i will be on my head. I guess i can see where they would change the kit as the 03 has a different air filter and the airflow is slightly different. But to justify different agnled needles i dunno. Well i think i am going to just leave the mains i have in it and change the needles and springs and hope for the best. More power would be nice but i dont see it happening. This is tha way i tuned mine. It says 5th clip on needles i went one leaner, It says 132/136 jets with a pipe. It was a little on the rich side with that so i put 10 3/8 holes in the lid and it ran perfect. I put in a twin air filter and went up 2 more jet sizes and put in 20 more 3/8in holes. Jetting spot on. No stumble sputter or missing. I am running now 136/140 DJ jets with needles 4th notch, with a twinair filter and 30 3/8 holes in the lid with a special snorkle(crystal f) and an HMF pipe and EPI red/black. My bros grizz running an HMF with a proflo filter and the same tires and rims as I is getting severely spanked. Our top end speeds are the same. When i say severely spanked i am talking 8-10 quad lengths in a 100yards. I can also take my buddies piped Z400 in a drag by about 3 lengts til i hit the rev limiter. Then he passes me as to having a higher top speed. What do you guys think should I change it or leave it. I mean can it get any better? I guess if it doesnt i can always go back to the way it was. I wish i had another P650 to check out with similar mods to see.

mtecate,
Dynojet 132f/136r, 5th notch on needle, airscrews at 2.75f & 3.00r.
Diamondg snorkle, 3 - 1" holes in cover, K&N filter & Pro Circuit T4. Ride below 1000' elevation.
Same results, scary strong on the bottom and pulls hard all the way through. Little rich on the top, plugs are light brown. May jet down a little and try the 4th notch on the needle but I hate to screw with it because it's working so well. I know many guys curse these jets but I've been more than pleased with the results so far.
Just my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

If its a hair rich i would just put another hole in the lid. Its easier then changing the jetting and you'll gain a hair more performance besides. Then come winter if shes a little lean all you have to do is close up one hole and jetting is on. I tell all my friends its my handy dandy Dial a Box Kit. LOL Works great and i dont have to worry about wearing out the carb bowl screws any worse than they are now. LOL
