Taking the 650 to the motocross track!

Prairiewrench,
The rear housing is transferable from the 700 to the 650 just have to trade the crown and pinion plus shaft. The axle on the 700 is stronger than the 650 and is a straight bolt on. If Wheeler is wrights me saying he is missing a rear axle housing don't say I told you about switching them out LOL. I saw your picks on the gaping crack a gohper can climb through not even when I twisted my shaft did do number like that. If the internal casting isn't to damaged I might be able to repair it but not for your next race. Send me some pics of the inside of the rear housing if you get a chance.

alltoys, I talked to Mike P last night and he told me the 700 housing is the same except made of stronger material. He said all the 650 parts will bolt right in. The housing is busted up on the inside to, the inner pinion bearing hole is busted up pretty good. The ring and pinion are also gonna have to be replaced! This is gonna be a very expensive mishap if Kaw says no to our warranty request. LOL I would like to talk to you about making me a thicker cover plate on the ring gear side tho. Take a look at yours and get your brain rolling! I will spend the .19 cents a minute and call you to discuss it! LOL If I have to buy parts I think I might as well go with all the 700 stuff for a little added strength. I have a brand new 650 axle sitting here but I will see if the dealer will take it back in trade for 700 parts. Oh,, the swing arm bearings are really bad too! There has got to be a better setup for them bearings. I'm gonna try to get them matched up and get sealed bearings for them. I will take some more pics of the housing for ya today after I tore it apart. The Kaw dealer is gonna see what he can do for us too. The price on the housing is only $146.03 US so that is not bad but then add in the ring and pinion, bearings, the covers, and seals and the price rockets up! Oh well, that's just part of the game I guess,,, if you wanna play you will have to pay! The old man and I talked about trading it off and getting a Orange 700 but I guess I just like the Prairie better, it seems more impressive to me to take a big 4x4 and show up some of the sport machines out there. Ok, gotta get to work,,, later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats the second prairie I've heard of doing the same thing. Last year I saw a 650 at the dealer with the rear diff housing blown apart b/c the kid was jumping with it. Must have been some pretty serious jumps. The bike had 108 miles on it and was gonna cost between $1000 and $1400 to fix.

Excuse me if I am intruding into a conversation where I haven't a clue, but in reading this thread, a poster was taking a P650 to an MX track, in doing so they busted the rear housing; if I have the facts straight, is this a concern for P650 owners or was this caused via a jump not expected by P650 owners?

The jump was not a big one, maybe 3ft tall! This Prairie has taken 40ft table tops, and has been jumped 5ft plus in the air with no problems. I'm not exactly sure what cause the housing to break, maybe just the way it landed or a casting flaw but I know Mike Penland has taken more severe jumps than this and never had any problems, I talked to him about this last night. All I know is now I would be concerned if I had a 700 or a 650 because if this had been a bigger jump with any speed it could have ended pretty badly for the rider! The Kaw dealer has the parts now and is gonna contact Kaw about it. I will let you guys know what happens.

700 V-Force riders don't panic. Our rear ends are made of a different combination of mentals and is supposed to be much stronger then that on the 650 Prairie. Prairiewrenchbreathdog - how come everytime some rides my 650 they crash? Have I trained it that well?

Prairiewrench,
Keep that quad any longer and you will have put almost every new part there is into that machine LOL. You could sell all the new parts off the 650 and buy a new one with some money left over LOL. Good luck with the 700 change over I was contemplating that myself but I have replaced all the drive gear components before the 700 came out.

I'm still waiting on the Kaw dealer to get back to me about the rear end. Before I go buying the 700 stuff I'd like to see some documented proof that the housing is stronger. Anyone can say it is made of different materials but I wanna see the proof. I looked the 700 housing over the other day and it looks exactly like the 650! I realize that I may not be able to see a differance. I also would like to know if they (Kawasaki) has had a problem with the housings breaking and if not then why would they need to make a stronger housing? There's something for ya'll to ponder!
