The 2002 P650 choke springs are notoriously crappy. Replace them with choke springs out of a '94 KLR 650 and your problem will be solved. The part number for the KLR springs is 92081-1720. They are about 1/4 inch longer than the stockers and are way stiffer. Smartens the chokes up right quick. Remember to order 2.

There is a splitter assembly on your choke cable that allows 2 cables to come off your main choke cable. The 2 plunger springs are located at the carb end of your choke cables. What happens is that even though you push your choke to the off position, the springs don't have enough "spring" in them to push the plungers all the way in, which is the off position. Once you put in those new springs, that problem is cured.

This is one of the things I most appricate about this forum .... good people giving
good advise to help others. Thanks for taking time to help me Guys
I will install the new springs before the next ride.
( this would most likely explain why I only get about 35 miles per tank of fuel !!)
