wheelies help........... and other stuff
#1
I have been reading lots on wheelies and it seems i can hardly get my front end off the ground without putting alot of body power into it,am i doing something wrong? i have both springs and just set my deflection and a new belt and still seems about the same, will the 27" outlaws effect this?.Also it seems like i have lost some of the top end speed any suggestions would greatly help!!! Oh ya my nabor just got his 03 Grizzly and we had a race down the pavement about 500 yards and i beat him about 5 or 6 bike lengths but can only get 85 or 86km out of my bike could the speedo be out?

If I'm not mistaken, a tighter belt will reduce your top speed. Having shims in the secondary clutch will allow the belt to go further into the sheaves, resulting in a tighter radius and a higher gear ratio. When you take shims out to tighten the belt, the belt can't go as far into the clutch sheaves and you can't get to that high of a gear ratio. I can wheelie in low pretty easy. I don't pull or anything. When I stab the throttle, the front end will start raising and if I don't get off of it, it seems to want to keep going. But it depends on the traction. I have to have good grip for that to happen. I can't do it on dirt or gravel, but if I'm in thick grass where my tread grips good, my front end comes up.

Yes the outlaw tires will affect your ability to wheelie. You have alot more weight to turn with the bigger tires. It also affects your top end because of the same reason, it is harder to spin a heavier mass the same speed as your stock tires. I have 28" 589s on my 650 and it is pretty easy to wheelie in low and can be done with some rider input in high. I also have the red/black spring and a Penland Big gun and a jet kit and DG snorkel.
