I use a purpose air filter oil, PJ1 is fine. Soak the filter and squeeze out as much as you can. I then put the filter between some rags, lay it on the floor and actually walk all over it to get out the last bit of excess oil. You don't want the oil to fill the foam pores, you just want a thin coating of oil throughout the foam pore walls. The dust sticks to that little bit of oil that's left.

Nyroc, BTW - the Bel-Ray oil I use is also the consistency hot bubble gum. It needs all that tack to draw the dust and hold it. I wouldn't bother looking for the Twin-Air filter oil, what you have is fine. Just make sure to get nearly all the oil out in the application process.

For what its worth...

I was PJ1 on my 03 Twin Air and it doesnt have any adverse effects at all.
Also i dont soak my filter. I spray each side until its completely covered. Im not sure if thats the right way,but it works for me.

Nyroc, if you have your stock filter, clean it, don't oil it and try running it to see how it runs. Or clean your Twinair and do the same thing. If it runs fine, I guess you'll have your answer.

NYROC

Dude you may want to check the carbs to see if there is an idle circuit at the top of the carbs on the 03 that is not available on the 02 or vise versa. These would be located at the top of the airbox so that they would take in box pressured air and not in the throat of the carb. Check the throats on the carbs to see if there is the addition of an idle port in there or somewhere. Sounds like to me that the diff. carb numbers added an Idle circuit for air sort of like a fuel injected throttle body does.

Dustin, I am gonna take the airbox off again and double check the stacks. I was not aware of carb differences.

If this is it, I am gonna see if all I need is a hole or something. I sure don't want to buy carbs, just for this.

The 02 stacks have bigger openings, but they would be flexed by the 03 filter in such a way that they would be a flattened.

Vacuum leak would draw more air thus making you lean..

I think the 2003 will reveal an idle circuit in the top of the carb mounting flange somewhere as this sound par to meet some of the current EPA standards that are ciculating. In fact that is why you have an engine family sticker under your seat as well as that HUGE muffler on the quads now.

I have been using the PJ1 foam oil too on my Twin-Air with no problems at all. I do just about the same as Nova Kaw650 except all I do is wring out the filter to get the excess oil out, then install the filter. With both the Snorkel & TA installed, I have noticed better engine preformance, now I just need to get some more miles on so I can switch over to 100% synthetic motor oil.
