i just bought a used 01 mojave. are there any known problems or things i should be watching for?

 

I have a 2001 Mojave and I've experience problems. It back fires, very difficult to start up at times, and sometimes when it's on idle the engine goes off. Mojave sucks big time. Wish I bought a Honda instead. Anyway that is how I feel about the Mojave.

 

I have a 2001 Mojave. Starts on the 1st or 2nd kick. Never has failed me. Excellent quad. Lots of power and good in tight trails. Will not keep up with the big displacements on straid aways, but on most trail riding it will hold its own. I would buy it again.

 

The only problem i have is i wish that the light ran on battery. i have a 2000 mojave and it hasnt had any problems.

 

Do you work for DirtWheels magazine ??? because you sound just like there Editors. it sounds like you just got a hold of a Faulted one.

 

Well, I think the exact opposite as that. After my 300ex has blown up twice I really appreciate my mojave just giving me a few loose bolts. First time it blew it dropped a valve and smashed the piston, bent the rod and runied my head ($500) Now this time the rod broke in half and shot through my cases and cylinder. That thing is gonna sit in the corner for a while. Kawasaki rules!

 

just make sure you get a good one. A friend of mine bought a 01 mojave that was terrible to start, i've seen him kick it for over ten minutes before it started and that was the same weekend he bought it new. I rode it then and it had no more power than the old honda 185 big red, he got so tired of it after riding it six times that he sold it to me for $300. I am determined to find out why it starts and runs this way because there seems to be several that run this way on this board. So when you buy one just make sure it starts good and has good power and I think youll have great fun.

 

Mine started acting that way once and i just pushed started it and it was fine.

 

every magazine dirtbike dirt rider dirt wheels atv sport all go for honda quads. seriuosly there ok but defianetly not the best. the mojave is a great condender but never gets to be in the lime light. the need to start puting the majave in the mag like pics review of the newer model. mabye show tricked mojaves where to get parts. also you have to appreciate the quad you need to take care of it. if you go out riding never clean it service the air filter change the oil filter changfe oil of course you will have problems!

 

now fatguy, no one was doggin on the mojave, all I was saying was that there are a few lemons in the bunch. And as far as the one I ended up with, the guy I got it from was a neat freak, after he got done riding it for the day he would go so far as to take all the plastic off so that he always had a perfect looking bike even though it didn't run right, so pay attention to what people post before you go spouting off.
