KFX 700 carb tuning
#1
So, I am reading my manual and it says "Have the carburetor adjusted by your authorized Kawasaki dealer if you intend to use this vehicle above 1640 feet". I live at 3800 feet and typically ride at 2500 to 5000 feet so I make an appointment to take the bike in. I show up to drop the bike off. The head technician says it doesn't need an adjustment, the factory calibrates for sea level to 3000 feet and we find that the factory adjustment is satisfactory for this area. The bike seems to run fine except when I let off the throttle I will sometimes get backfiring. I will be going to the Oregon coast dunes infrequently so I am dealing with a wide variety of altitudes. Sea level to 5000 feet. Should I re adjust the carbs or leave them?
Thanks for the input

If your going to be riding in varied elevations you should get a dial a jet kit for the easiest jetting changes. Then you just turn a **** to lean it or richen it so you dont have to tear into the carbs constantly.

I use a product from Holtzman Engineering on my sleds for 2400-8500 feet. It automaically compinsates for barametric pressure, alititude and temp. It is call ATTAC. Similar to the Variflow but does pressure as well. all us guys out west prefer these to dial-a-jets as they are auto-compansating. You are spot on at all elevations. I am waiting to see what they produce for 4-stroke engines and that will be the way to go if you ride with several thousand feet in elevation changes / day.
