Red Spring on P-360
#1
Anyone out there have the red secondary spring on there 360?? I have the black spring right now, but have seen several post saying the
red is better on the 360, so I thought I would give it a shot. I wanted to know if there is any negatives with this spring.

I have to put in a red spring in a buddies P360 in a few weeks. I've done lots of work on my auto scrambler and was wondering if you replaced the belt also when you put in the red spring and what tools were required. I'm hoping that it give the 360 a bit more snap. Also, did you lose any top end?
Thanks

The belt was the same one that was in it.... I got to thinking.. I DID smoke the belt after I put the red spring in.... but that was entirely MY fault. I had hooked up to a heavy half ton Ford 4x4 truck that was righteously stuck (finally took my Jeep Scrambler w/360 engine to get it out) and was pulling in reverse while winching in (I know - a big no-no). The tires were turning and smoking in the mud (as was the belt it turns out). Cheapest I could find the danged belt locally was $143 plus tax. Ron Ayers had it for around $120 with a 2-3 week ship time.
The only tools I needed were 10mm socket, 27mm impact socket (I think - doing this from memory) for the driven clutch, air impact tool, torque wrench, 19mm socket to turn the drive clutch to walk the belt off and then the home-made spring compressor tool. Be sure to have some moly-disulfide grease on hand to put on the buttons inside the sheaves and also on the shaft to keep it from rusting... I noticed mine was a tad rusty near the base.
I didn't loose any top-end that wasn't already caused by the tire/wheel combo. Hookup seems to be a little "snappier". Honestly it's some of the best money I've spent. Be sure to check/adjust the deflection while you have it apart.

Thanks for the reply vulcancruzer, I think I am going to take the last shim out while I"m in there, this is my second belt (dealer replaced the 1st one) & I have about 1000 miles on it.. Who's Ron Ayer's?? I might want to order one to keep it on hand, I recon I'll have to be replacing it by end of summer as much as I ride.. What kind of top end are you getting out of your 360?

Installed my red secondary spring today.. Sure makes the 360 allot more repsonsive. Unfortunetly I have seamed to loose a few MPH, & dont like that.. also it feels like your in L instead of H sometimes.. It seams to me that the spring started to kind of like break in & it started feeling a little better after some riding though. Dont get me wrong I like this spring, can almost climb any hill in H gear, but I'm not sure I like the low gear feeling of it as much.. Hopefully the spring will break in a little & ease up a bit, anyone experience that ??
