What mods to start with on my new 03 Prairie 650?
My black spring arrives tomorrow. I've got some gear heads at work that will help me get the new spring on I just need to take off the bolt and bring it in. Easy!
I can't believe I have to invest in new tires
So what about the stock rims? I'd like to keep the "look". What tires should I get to fit on these rims or is that just out of the question??????? I want a NICE ride 1st then better in the mud 2nd.
Post away on what you guys think I should buy for tires!
Also is the Diamond G snorkel worth the $50?? I am not sure where the thing goes either. Where is the stock snorkel? Its not around the air box and I've check the manual. Or isn't there a "stock" on? Someone exlain this to a newbee like myself! THANKS!

go with the mudlites. awesome on the trails and pretty darn good in the mud too. as far as wheels, you dont have to change them but i did. i put the c-series on mine and it looks awesome. i kept the stock tires on the stock rims so i have a spare set. look in my pics for what the c-series and mudlites look like on the 650.

for the spring compressor dont waist your money. if you have a buddy and you know someone that has an olympic weight set, use a 45lb weight, the hole in it is perfect. just put it over the top have a buddy push dowwn, take the retaining clip out, put in the new spring, push down againput the clip back in and thats that

You will get ALL KINDS of suggestions for tires. I run the Appalachian Mtns. of SE Ohio, and SW WVa.(Hat/McCoy), and run the ATR's on "C'Series ITP wheels. The C's are available in black powdercoat, now. I ride fast trails, and fireroads. The ATR's kick @$$ for my terrain, and style of riding! If you do DEEEEP mud, a lot, I suggest M/T 589's,Kenda BearClaws, Mudlites, Maxxis Shur Trax.

jwkawi,
So the ITP mudlites give you a BETTER ride than the stock tires?
Well I can get all four of the stock size ITP mudlites (two 25x8x12 and two 25x10x12) for $284 shipped. I just want to keep my stock rims! I bet I can get 1/2 that for my stockers on ebay! Here is a stock pair up to $128 already.

Just my 2 cents .
I did alot of research on tires and decided to go with 26 inch mudrunner. I love them great on trails and mud .The was even before NYROC installed them on his 650. Do search on this forum on goodyear mudrunners
How hard is the black spring to install. Should I do the Drive spring too or just Driven spring.
What should dealer charge to install?
I just installed the progressive front Spring took abvout 2hrs .Hardest part is getting plastci and all screw to line up.
I am not sure if I am going to be able to do spring but will have to take off cover and take I look and have a beer

Tampavii,
What did changing the progressive front Spring do for you? I'll be doing the black spring Friday so I'll let you know how tough it is. I'll look into the mudrunners but I am leaning on sticking with the stock tires for a while at least.

gravelayer, go to www.bigbuckrack.com for great deals on mudlites and c-series rims. get there phone # and speak to sharon. they have free shipping and you dont pay tax if you are in a different state than them. i paid $520.00 for my tires and rims, mounted and delivered to my door. and yes, way better ride than the dunflops. my front end diving was significantly reduced with the installation of these tires.

Get new tires if you plan to do any medium to fast trail riding. The side walls on the stockers roll under in corners and make the front dive. Mudlites and Mudrunners are both good choices if you are going to do any mud at all. I think the 26” and above Mudlites have taller lugs then the 25” Mudlites. I have 26” Mudrunners and really like them. You can use the stock wheels.
Progressive springs are real nice. They stiffen up the front end and really improve cornering. Pretty easy to install, just takes a little time. Not a must have but real nice.
Black spring increases belt life. A must have. You need to check your belt deflection anyway and most are on the high end of the spec from the factory, so you have to take off the driven sheaves to tighten it. They grab and last a lot longer if on the low end of the spec. While you have it off put in the new spring. Make Nyroks spring compressor. Its easy and works great.
Buy the service manual. A must have. Do the work yourself. You will learn a lot about your quad and have the confidence that it was done right. If you have problems, I bet someone on this forum will be glad to help. There is a lot great guys and a world of knowledge about the P650 here.
The snorkle attaches to the left front of the air box. If you remove the access panel in front of and below the handle bars, you can see the intake. The Diamond G snorkle looks about the same as stock with a bigger intake.
Good luck
