Welcome to the forums.

Have you checked the voltage at the batteries while they're running?

Yes, I agree with Scootergptx.

Batteries store energy that is later used to turn the starter motor and start up the quad. But the energy consumed while starting the quad needs to be replaced once the engine is running or the battery will eventually go dead, and then you will have to get energy from somewhere else. The energy could be from jumping it to a car battery, or kick/pull starting it (in this case the energy comes from the wheaties you had for breakfast).

To see if your quad is putting energy back into the battery once it is started you need to measure the DC battery voltage right on the battery terminals when the quad is running at fast RPM with the headlights off. It should read 13.5 volts to 14.5 volts DC. If it is, then your charging system is working. If it is reading 12.6 volts or less then you charging system is not working.

If you think this is complicated just be glad you have a lead/acid battery. Other battery technologies are a *lot* more complex.

One more issue that needs to be stated: Leaving lead/acid batteries discharged is really bad for them. The sulphate up and are quickly ruined. Your new battery may already be severely compromised. You need to keep your quad batteries charged. I think everyone needs to have a charger built for motorcycle batteries, and use them whenever the quads aren't used for several weeks, or when they suspect the batteries aren't being charged.
