Default Kawasaki KFX80 will not start

Hello,

I have a 2004 Kawasaki KFX80 and it ran great 5 months ago before putting it away. So this weekend, I tried to start it with no such luck. The carburetor is new and I drained the tank and put fresh fuel in. Plenty of fuel is getting to the carburetor.

One observation that I made was when the spark plug was pulled 'to check for spark', there was spark when I depressed the starter switch, however, when I used the pull starter, there appeared to be a strong spark. I'm not sure what to make of it. Is there something I should check with the electrical system?

Does someone have a service manual I could download? What should the spark plug gap be, and should I check the CDI or stator?

Thank you for your answers

Is the plug getting wet?
After sitting, a carb cleaning is usually a good thing.

The plug is wet and the carburetor is new.

New 5 months ago or new since you pulled it out and tried to get it going?

Maybe it's flooded. Try a full throttle start.

I installed the carburetor yesterday along with fresh fuel. The old carb had corrosion inside the bowl, along with the ports so that's why I replaced it.

The battery wore down and I tried pull starting it with no such luck.

A service manual would come in handy, maybe the gap on the plug is wrong. I'll play with it this week sometime.

Book says:: .0024- .0031 for spark plug gap.
I'd try the full throttle start.

I was finally able to get the machine to start (after 10 minutes of trying) and it ran fine when running, but when I finally shut the machine down, then tried to start it, it wouldn't start, either by electric or pull start. The spark plug gap was set at .026. It should not take this long to start.

I'm convinced its an electrical issue because there is plenty of fuel going to the carburetor and the plug is getting wet. Could it be a CDI and/or stator issue? Are these common issues for the LT/KFX80's? My next approach is to test the electrical components with an Ohmmeter

I don't use the machine all that much, maybe a handful of times throughout the year.

So how about that full throttle start? Try it?
We need to figure out if it's dumping fuel in (float needle prob maybe).

I did try the full throttle start but it took almost 10 minutes to start.

Once the machine started, it ran fine until I shut it down after 20 minutes. After that, it wouldn't start back up again.

I'll pull the carburetor back off again to inspect the float and needle.

Any other suggestions?
