Default LTZ50 CDI melting

Please help. I have a 2009 Suzuki LTZ50. It has had rev limiter issues for some time and the other day it quit running. I removed the seat and found the CDI had melted down. I replaced the CDI with a Procom unit and it ran great for 20 minutes and died again. I removed the new CDI and found a bulge on the side of it at well. Trying to figure out the issue prior to burning up another CDI. Any thoughts?

i would check the voltage regulator to see if its over charging, put a meter on the battery cables and see how many volts its charging at.

then start checking the harness for shorts to frame or other wires
