Welcome to the forums.
The gasket goes either way. 90-100 inch pounds on the head nuts.
You did get the rings on the correct way and piston toward exhaust....right?

The rings have a up/down side. There is a number or letter on the ring end. That's the top. It's common to use a magnifying lense to see them.
Either ring can go in either slot.
OEM Parts
The fiche shows what looks to be 2 tubes on the top.
Most dealerships have parts fiches online. They help alot.
Pred 50 is not my machine so haven't a clue.
Ask "opt" in the polaris section altho I bet he see's this soon and chimes right in to help.
FYI: I've never been a rings only guy. The way I look at it is if the rings are wore, why wouldn't the piston be wore.
Did you measure the piston to cylinder wall clearance?
Arrow on the Piston toward exhaust....right?"

Two casting fins on the head goes up.Not a "rings only" guy either especially on 2 strokes. Just too much wear on rings and piston and cylinder compared to 4 strokes.

Thanks for your help This machine is just to get the youngest started into riding. I have a 90 that they jump on when they get to running it wide open. The 50 was still running good I just have good luck with small investment this way. I also put lower front bushings in the front end with new brakes. would you guys know what makes the two stroke oil drain into motor when it sets for 2 weeks or more? when you start it it smokes heavy for 5 or 10 minutes. is there a valve or is it controlled by the valve on the injection cable?

Setting at times allows a lot of oil to accumulate in the fuel bowl. Guess the pump continues to drain oil though the small injector hose on the carb.Or maybe because of vacuum. Either way I've opened up plenty of 50/90 carbs like this that have been sitting and found the bowls full of more oil than gas. From there it's a straight shot into the crank case.Try to remember to turn the fuel valve off after each use, many people don't. Plus you can remove the exhaust pipes from these old ones and clean them out with kerosene if you have the time. Just let it set a couple days. Can get the oil build up out that causes a lot of the smoking also. Plus I've found carbon buildup around the exhaust port on several older ones that restricted running. Chipped away the carbon and they ran considerably better.

Default 50 loaded up

I always turn gas off and also drain the bowl if it is going to set for a mouth or more.I think the oil was coming from the injection tank I bought the 50 and 90 used so they have bean a work in progress. The 50 was low on gear case oil and was very black so this is the 3rd oil change for it. The 50 is working running good so i am going to start working on the 90. The 90 has a stall problem when you turn the bars to the right think it is electrical hope I can find what it is. thanks for all your help Dale.
