Predator Clinking ???
#1
Have just got a new pred 90 for the boy, it is running great although there is a clinking sound coming from it when he goes over rough ground.
Think it might be the chain, everything else appears OK.
Anyone have any ideas???

Actually, the chain adjustment instrctuions for checking tension is on the rear brake guard. Basically, put a tie down strap around the rear axle and the grab bar and tightighten untilt he axle is straight. THe chain should have 1/4 play in it. If not (and it probably wont) Loosen the rear asssembly bolts and turn the little nuts on the screw under the axle. Should be all set.

Had a go yesterday with tighening the chain. Could not move one of the rear assembly bolts.
Was wondering if a new chain would be a better idea?
Or could i take a couple of links out the chain?

My son & I have owned an '03 Pred-90 for more then 5 months. Since that time, we've learned a lot about this unit and overall general maintenance. Here's a few things to remember....
A "new" chain usually stretches a lot when it's new, then it seems to stop stretching, and its stretches again when at its end-of-life. Regardless of its size, all "new" chains stretch for a short period of time at the beginning.
If your unit is on warranty and you are unable to tighten its chain (by loosening its main bolts) immediately contact your dealer. He/She "should" assist you with this basic maitenance task. If necessary, they'll use their wrenches to loosen the main nuts/bolts. Hopefully, they were NOT installed too tightly with an impact gun at the factory. If your unit is off warranty, ask your mechanically experiencedc neighbour to come over to assist it. Having the ability to tighten / loosen the chain is a must.
On my son's unit, I followed the "factory" chain tightening instructions and found an engineering design flaw. To me (and many others), they should have a factory Chain Tensioner on the '03 model. The demand for this 3rd party part is so high, a few mini-ATV shops NOW sell them (specifically for the Polaris Pred-90 model). Hope this helps...
