Will an Odyssey's electrical system handle a winch? I just inherited a Ramsey SW2500 and would like to mount it on my '85 FL350R. Would I need to get a bigger battery or perhaps an auxiliary battery? Any thoughts on this particular winch? Any kind of input on this is appreciated.

Thanks, Eric Zeh ’85 FL350R

Eric, a battery capable of starting your quad should store enough amp-hours for reasonable winching with your Ramsey 2500.

A winch, like a starter motor, is an intermittent-use, not a continuous-use device. With a battery in good condition and charged, you should have no problem.

Run your engine so your alternator charges your battery during winching, minimizing battery drain. Good luck!
