We currently have six of the Collett 900 communicators. We replaced our older Collett 49's about two years ago. We've been real happy with them - the 900's work well, range from 1 to 2 miles depending on terrain and temperature. 3 of our units are the older 900 style and 3 are the platinum. One of the old units broke an internal wire at the power input point - repaired free under warrantee. The platinum 900's have been trouble free - we bought the 'trade show' specials - units that were used as demo's at shows. They ran about $139 ea.

I'd recommend these. If you have kids riding with you on the trails, they are aomost as important as a helmet.

We run a bunch of the older collett 49 models while snowmobiling. They work well other than the power cord eventually breaks inside(after a couple of seasons) at the unit on the side of the helmet from constantly twisting your head from side to side. They have always fixed them free, no questions asked when I've sent them back even though they are over 10 years old.It looks like they have addressed this problem on the new ones so this shouldn't happen anymore. We've tried the chatterbox's and they worked well but weren't very reliable. The newer models may be better though.

I use the MOTOCOM headsets in all my helmets. they run about 60.00 but then you have to have a radio but those are cheap. nice thing is you don't have the radio on the side of your helmet. Only issue I have had is my son dropped his helmet and bent the plug, then ripped the wires out of the push to talk button so you have to be careful with the kids
