I've been working on our LT80 doing little mods here and there, but one of the things I'll have to do soon is replace the rear tires. I know there are alot of sizes and brands that people run, but I don't really want a real wide tire on the back, but would like something better than the stockers. I might be the one and only person on here that doesn't really want to make this thing wider either, It just wouldn't get around near as well on our trails if it was wider. So to make a long story longer, has anyone used Snow Hawgs on the rear? Has anyone tried something like a turf tammer on STOCK wheels?
One more thing, I've put an FMF pipe, Uni filter, and soon to put Boyseen(?) reeds in it. Also planning to do some clutch mods when I put the reeds in. Does anyone else have a combo like this and if so, what kind of jetting changes, if any, have you done?

we run turftammers on the back, hetrick pipe with stock air box, have clutch mods w/motor work. If you have been talking w/ lt80(jack) he will set you up with the right combo.

 

No your not the only one that doesn't want the bike that wide. I just ordered a set of 18" fast trekkers for the rear he rode about 15 minutes and I took them off, way to wide. We have one 80 that I put some 16" x 6.5 x 8 snow hogs ( all 4 wheels) on for the first son to learn on and it makes the bike so much lower that he never did tip it over, its like a slot car ( also turned the wheels around). They offered great traction but just not enough ground clearance and got hung up on about everything. They are actually only about 15" tall at 4 or 5 PSI. I am looking at putting some 18" x 6.5 x 8 snow hawgs on the older boys 80 now but was told they were only about 16 1/2" tall so they may not be tall enough either. Does anyone know what the mounted height of these is? All in all though they did exactly what I bought them for and have held up great. Never have heard of anyone mounting a 9.5" wide tire on that narrow a wheel but if you could even get it on it probably wouldn't be a whole lot narrower. On the performance stuff I don't know ours go fast enough.

I just bought 20x7-8 , a tiny bit bigger, but not wider (stock size is 19x7-8).they are Cheng Shin knobby, $20 each from rockymountainatv.com. Very good tire for that price.

you want Boyesen Reeds. You can buy from their "store" on their web-site for $15.95 ( i think it's model #668).

 

Confused you putting them on that Raptor 80?

 

no, they're going on the LT80. I should change my profile to say the lt80 is now running. funny, it's a '93 with original tires and the rears are just worn out and the fronts probably have 40% left.

the Raptor has been collecting dust and I'd like to sell it, but my wife wants to keep it.the tires are factory, and still have way too much tread to change. I haven't checked the sizes, are they the same?

 

Nothing smaller than a 18" tire on the LT80. the Snow Hogs do offer a lot of traction and are nicely priced.

 

i run 18/6.5/8 all the way around on mt sons DRR90 . he races and woods ride too. it came stock with 18/9/8 turf tamers on it . i waz very surprised on how good the snow hogs hook up in the mud and the dry in the woods .. when we went out in the snow those tire just riped . he would do a donut and be to the grass throwing dirt with in the first one . and it seems not to bounce him as bad as the stock tires
