can you get in trouble
Im a state trooper in North Carolina and there are no such laws pertaining to age and size of machine in my state. If there was such a law there would be alot of people in trouble, including myself. My son is 7 and rides a 90 modified by Hetrick racing. I dont think there are any laws in your state that deal with it either.

My son is 4'5 and 95lb so a 50cc was to small for him.So i went with a 80cc .We live in wisconsin and the dnr website said (children under 12 may operate a atv that has 4 wheels and that has either an engine certifed by the manufacturer at not more than 90cc or equivalent power unit)

Not to be a smart rearend, but what are they gonna do, card him? Tell them he forgot his licsense at the bar.lol I have heard of some states with restrictions, but unless it is obvious they are too young or he is required to take a course that requires a birth cert. just lie through your teeth. You might tell your kid ahead of time so he doesn't tell the officer his real age while you are fibing.

I'm pretty sure it was on PA or WV site I heard about age restrictions. It may have been for a certain riding area. I didn't pay close attention since it would never apply to me. And just for the record Kent, I would never lie to a law enforcement representative. (Either that or I just did ) LOL

I too would like to know about younger kids and trail riding.
The only thing I ever saw regarding this was the same thing hp703 post above. We have two younger children who we want to trail ride with but do not want to be fined by the first rec officer we see. We have a new one in town and I hear he loves to write tickets and smiles while writing them.
Maybe I'll have to track him down and ask.

Thats okay Im used to it. It is usually pretty obvious like the ones who are too drunk to walk so they drive and claim they have only had one beer. I have heard of age restrictions at atva sanctioned events and some public riding areas. Seems like every state has its own laws that differ from state to state. It is probably best to check with the locals.

I looked up that web site for your state. You may want to consider moving to another state. They have alot of regulations dealing with ATVs. I also looked up in my state and it has everthing from tattoos to swimming pools, but nothing on ATVs. Its appears the regulations only apply to state maintained areas and not to private land though.
