Default stalling problem on pred 90

I was wondering if any of you have had the same problem. my kids Pred 90, will not start with the right brake Engaged, it will kick start fine, but when you push the right brake it stalls out. It's probably something easy to fix, I am just mechanically uninclined.

It's probably something really silly... Ensure the key is on, its tether strap **** is plugged in, its red kill switched is in the proper position. Now, try squeezing the left brake handle approx 1/2 way (or so) and pressing the yellow starter button with the thumb on your same left hand. Let us know if this makes it start...

kayaus,

Just wondering if you found your starting and stalling problem???

If its still stalling, can you provide us more details. For example, stalls before 1/4 throttle, stalls between 1/4 - 3/4 throttle range, when its engine is warm, when its engine is cold, etc.

It starts fine with the kick start and runs great once it is started. The problem is once I engage the left brake it stalls out, I had posted that it stalls when I pull the right brake, but it is the left. Anyway in order to start it with the electric start you have to engage the left brake, it just turns over like it is not getting any spark, I change the plug but it didnt help. Hopefully I can figure it out the polaris dealership is a couple of hours away, and I really would rather not pay them for something stupid, I can probably fix if I can just figure out what it is. I got to do something soon or the kids are gonna kill me. thanks

This sounds like its very complicated....

If you are NOT comfortable with trouble shooting this problem, here's a few options to consider:

- Invite a few of your "mechanically gifted" buddies over for 1 beer. As you meet them, drag them over to your garage, hand them a beer and ask them to help you troubleshoot the problem. If they can't find the problem, you are only out a 1 beer (or two).

- If your Pred-90 is still under warranty, call your dealer long distance and explain the situation to their head mechanic. Ensure you are using a cordless phone because he/she may ask you to perform a few minor tests to it. Hopefully they can help you over the phone.

- If your dealer can't fix it via long distance conversation, ask if you could take your Pred-90 to a Polaris dealer within your local area - if there is one. While under warranty, the selling dealer sometimes has to vouch its still under warranty to a different dealer.

With no spark with its electric starter engaged and it stalls when left brake handle is pressed, it sounds like a wiring problem to me. Loose plug, two wires that rubbed together too much or even its ignition switches. Could be any of these areas.

* On my Arctic Cat 500i, its engine would sometimes stall when I turned left or turned right. Sometimes its electric starter wouldn't work properly either. The starter gear would work but it wouldn't spark. After 1 hour of troubleshooting, I discovered one of its factory electrical plugs came loose. Press together and a drop of plastic glue fixed that connection!!!! Troubleshooting that random intermitting problem was a pain in the tail as well.

Hope these ideas help...

OK this is a little wierd... but the problem is fixed on my sons quad. I have 2 Pred 90 for my boys, one pretty heavily modified, the other pretty much stock. The stock one has the newer pipe from Hetrick that can be installed with the battery. It also has a K&N and some clutch mods. This one is for my youngest boy that likes the electric starter. Anyway to the problem and answer... lately it will turn over very fast, but will not start unless you kick start it. So I looked at the voltage output and wires and could not find a problem. I then unplug the tail light connector and TUH DUH!!!! It starts everytime. Plug the light in and it won't. So needless to say it now does not have a rear light. But I have a very happy 6 year old son. So for the rambling, but hope this can help. My genius, although funny looking ha ha, motor builder thinks it might have something to do with the actual peak of the voltage to fire the ignition. I have no clue!

Hey Brad. Thats not stupid. I have heard that before. Something with the way they loop the wiring....Also you said you got a K&N on there. Is the carb still the stock size. We tried to put on on my stock carb on the Xtreme and couldnt get it jetted in any kinda way right and gonna have to get a bigger carb i guess.

The K&N is called a universal fit model. But was the right size for the 16VM Mikuni carb. The jet size is an 82.5 and it ran perfect with the stock pipe. I have since went to a 90 and a Hetrick pipe. The bike runs great except for that stalling problem that we were having. I can't wait to see it run at the races this weekend.

Hmmm wonder whats up with us cause put on on my Xtreme and we got all the way up to a 140 main jet and was still bogging down and we got a clutch kit and WRH pipe. So we went back to the stock air filter and just went up two on the needle. Runs great now.

The only other thing that it might be is, I have a modified stock reed cage to accept Boysen Reeds. So it is getting even more air.
