i know it sounds big but, if hes been riding for a good many years ...have you tried a blaster to see if he fits on

my 8 y/o who is much smaller than your son rides a '93 Suzuki LT160. 5spd, 4-stroke,plus reverse. pretty bullet-proof and proven track record.buy one used and you can probably sell it for close to what you paid in a few years.they really survive a sound thrashing.

I'd recommend a auto shift model (no clutch, just pick up the shifter) ei: 250ex/z-250/etc. (sorry I'm not a polaris fan)
My son jumped to a 300ex. I consider the 300ex a safer ride than the blaster (not a zingie 2 stroke)
Actually, 5' 100 lbs. isnt that giant.
If it's stock then you possibly should mod it to make it fast and fun.Modding one is surely cheaper than a new machine. A rider that size can handle that size machine like a pro. My daughter ran the LT till 15 yrs. old. She was 5' and over 100 lbs. My youngest son raced last year on a LT, he's 5'1" and 135. The daughter was the MX national champ on a LT in 1996, the boy got 2nd at the Orrville GNC TT race.
If your sons LT80 could do 50 mph, would it be fun again?
A lil food for thought.

my 10 yr old rides a 400 ex, so well that we modded it already. i know it sounds like a hugh step but it works great it has smooth fourstroke power and it is much better for the family rides than the blaster was. i got a 300 for the daughter but now will look for another 400 the power difference is noticeable, we see it when we take new adult riders and they get stuck on the 300 and then my sons lets them take his 400 and they become comfortable right away. but after the small dirt bike the little quads weren't doing it for my son. plus it puts a end to needing a new quad every few years.

For the trails stick with the 4 strioke. The Blaster is a great bike, many in our group have them in that age range, but we ride in the sand where you want to keep the RPMs up anyway. The Blaster has to constantly be shifted. 300ex is a great intermediate bike for a kid like that. He should pick up the clutch thing very quickly.
