Default Sportsman 90 - Will idle but, not accelerate

My daughter's 2001 Sportsman 90 will idle, but when more throttle is given is will die. It will immediately re-start after it dies (the plug is not wet).

I have changed the spark plug.

I have taken the carb apart and cleaned all the jets.

I have cleaned the air filter (but currently have it off)

I have new gas in it.

I have a new gas filter in it.

I have verified the gas is flowing.

It acts like it is starving for gas as it will start right back up after it dies. Which leads me to believe it is not electrical (if the spark cuts out but the gas keeps flowing to the engine the plug would foul and make it difficult to start back up).

It has always been cold-blodded but now won't even accelerate or move. It has an automatic choke. Has anyone experienced a problem similar? Does anyone have any knowledge on automatic chokes like this?

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thank,

Gerry K.

hey gerk . mine waz doing that also . well i took it to hetrick racing also mine is a DRR, turns out that it vaberlocks in the fuel tank. for some reason"blocked vent tube" it doesnt let enough air thru the vent tube , so it runs out of gas . now i have to check all the vent tubes . if doesnt stop it. i will be trying to find a vented gas cap. try loeing the gas cap or take it off and see if it runs . 1 more thing did you rejet it for a racing pipe if you did the jet mit be to small

I will take a closer look at the vent tubes tonight. It does imitate a vapor lock situation.

If you look under the cowling there is an assortment of tubes. One of them goes to the top of the gas tank near the fill.

If you find no problems with the fuel system, do a compression test.

I did a compression test and it was 100lbs.

Does anybody know if that is enough for a 90cc engine?

The quad does not have that many hours on it and I have performed all maintenance as required.

gerkom I have a 2004 Predator and the service manual states that 90cc model should have between 90-100 psi.

RoadDoc

I'd say I'm within guide as far as compression.

I'm very mechanically inclined and have done everything to motorcycle engines but this one has me baffled.

Unfortunatley, being a man, I cannot bring myself to take it to a dealership to have it fixed as it would be kinda like asking for directions when I'm lost in my truck. Genetically I just can't do it.

I'll keep plugging away.

Thanks,

Gerry K.
