Default Which quad to get/ bore out

What would be beeter for a 12 year old kid. I was thinking maybe bore out the e-ton viper 90 20 about 110cc's and get a pipe for it or buy him an extreme pro 150. which is better?

how about a 250ex & call it good? At that age, he'll be wanting something bigger in less than a couple of years.

I agree,I'd get him something with more CCs right from the factory.Depending on how much experience he has riding you can choose from something like the blaster(full manual trans and two stroke performance) to something belt driven (fully automatic) like the breeze or the new little grizzly. Then there's the suzuki's and Honda 250s.Also you can't just bore out most of the mini's you have to buy an oversize cylinder and piston.By the time you add on the price of the pipe and clutch mods to make it work properly you will be near the price of one of the bigger bikes which will probably be more reliable in stock form.

I would look at the Honda 250ex, Recon, Blaster, Suzuki Quadsport250 or even what Kawasaki, Yamaha and Polaris have to offer before moving to a 150 cc extreme. These quads have already proven themselves as being reliable/safe machines. They have plenty of aftermarket parts and the dealers are everywhere. If he is 12 y/o old he is going to out grow the Viper which is probably why he needs more power. You can get a new blaster for 2700.00 OTD. Just something to think about.

The blaster has a 6 speed manual transmission. It seems to be very popular among your son's age group and my son is even looking to get one when he sells he YZ80. He will learn to shift and use the clutch quickly. Kids learn at 6 and 7 how to use the clutch on dirt bikes. It shouldn't be an issue. There are a ton of aftermarket mods for the blaster also. I have seen them in the classifieds for as little as 1400.00 but most are 1800.00 to 2200.00 with a lot of aftermarket parts.

The Blaster is a two stoke, the Recon, 250ex and the Z250 are all 4 strokes. I don't know if this an issue with you or your son. Good luck and have fun
