Default 2005 E-TON VIPER 90R (No more Raptor50)

I just re-read my post. I'm not trashing Eton at all. I'm just trying to say they're good and so are several other brands like Yamaha, Suzuki, Kasea. Look at what the Flames have done to all their opponents who haven't respected them, or have underestimated them??!!

Hello Confused,
I don't disagree with you that the current Yamaha suspension is a great improvement over no suspension.
One other thing I was concerned about was footboards..
On the gearbox units, either Yamaha or Honda you have an exposed toe which does look like an great way for young riders to run over their feet.
The full footboards on most of the CVT tranny models makes MOM feel a little better about these machines.

Sounds like someone is jealous of the Flames.GO FLAMES GO!!!!!!!!!
If a Yamaha dealer says that about a product he has been selling for many years. That should tell you something. Not that he is full of it,but that he is being honest. It's funny that he was not the only dealer to tell me that.He did tell me that they did line them up a couple times, the E-TON 90 walked all over the Raptor 80.I know i had a 2004 Raptor50 and the suspension was the worst i had ever seen, very unsafe.
Two shocks mounted on a solid axle, max weight 88lbs.As far as the chain go's,it comes with the territory.Chains do stretch when they are new.If your not very mechanically inclined you should stick with the Raptor 80 as it is very low maintenance.Have fun changing the gear ratio.I wonder why Yamaha only gives 6 month warranty just like the E-TON.
I wonder if Todd Bertuzzi wouldn't have punched the Colorado player in the head, maybe they would be in the Stanley cup.........NOT...LOL

I bought my e-ton from www.offroadcycle.on.ca (905-885-7278) He is located in Port Hope and runs a racing series and really knows these mini's (all brands) inside and out. There is another one in Oshawa called Switzer Motors that is also a car dealership. If your looking strictly for best price this is probably the place but I'm not too sure about service. There is another dealer that I know in Cambridge called Bulldog Power Sports 519-624-2518 that sells them and also races with us.Ask for Marie and tell her ***** sent you.If you need any further info let me know.

Hayman, I agree, full footboards are great. The 80 has the rear covered/enclosed, but not enclosed up front. On the old LT50 we had, our son got his foot chewed up once including a trip to the hospital, due to a horrible footboard design... like i said .. the thing was a lawsuit, but they still had hours of fun with it. Also, the way they styled the fenders on the 80 really sucks cuz a lot of mud and stuff blows past. They had to make it look cool like the Raptor, instead of practical.

Now for you Mr. Flatlander Dynoport! I'm not jealous at all, I'm extremely BITTER!! Bertuzzi helped the team by his brain-dead sucker punch, because he got rid of the team's cancer: HIMSELF, and it forced them to play like a team (almost as well as Calgary is playing as a TEAM). Unfortunately, it also turned the whole country, including the refs, against Vancouver. I thought it was still the most intense, hit for hit series even up to now. And if it wasn't for Special Ed taking the totally uncalled for cross-checking penalty to the neck of the Calgary player ( a very fair call I might add), we might have had a chance in game 7 OT. And we would be in finals now if it wasn't Calgary. But they are a team of destiny this year and that's why they'll win the Cup (again, it makes me bitter it's not us). Anytime you score as many ricochet goals and get as many good breaks as they've got; it's destiny. Good for them and good for Calgary, but now we're in another 10 year drought! Not fair. i think we have one of those Red Sox/Cubs curses on us. Waaaaa.:

Sorry for the digression here, but it's us hockey crazy canuckleheads on this particular chat, so hopefully y'all will understand. As for the atv.... Ummm, i know how to adjust a chain.... I'm not a useless idiot. And not all of us west-coasters are Svend Robinsons worried about breaking a nail! You can't deny that adjusting and lubing a chain is a general pain in the a$$.Not to mention replacements. Changing my gear box??When? When it wears out in 30 years?? I guess belts last forever and clutches don't need any servicing? There are a lot of better features about the Eton over the Yamaha, but maintenance isn't one of them. I just spent hours doing maintenance on my son's Honda XR70, plus the other family toys, so low maintenance is a nice feature. I'm sure you and the dealer would disagree, so i must be wrong.

As for "the dealer lined them up and the Eton walked all over the Yamaha".... Hmmmm. Are you planning to race? Where we ride, speed isn't the issue.... we have steep trails, mountains, etc.. and both your daughter and my son will have fun and learn good riding skills on either machine. If my dealer said that to me, i'd be all over him. It's a "who cares" comment. It's not a race, it's about everyone getting there safely and enjoying. That would be one of the last factors in my purchase consideration. I think it's a comment they make to us males to get the testosterone going : "Yeah!! That thing got a Hemi in it?!"

I agree the Raptor 50 has got really bad reviews and I previously posted and directed you to another thread about the same issue. I think you're trashing the 80 because you're PO'ed with Yamaha (justifiably over the 50 design). But the 80 is different and it has some good features, just as the Eton does.

Hello Dynaport,
I was back looking at the E-Tons, Yamaha's and Polaris Pred. 90 today. I noticed that if you sit on the Viper's the chain tension increases. So, you may not need to have adjusted your chain. Might want to check the chain tension with the largest rider sitting on the machine. My 190 lbs. made a loose chain nice and tight just by sitting on the seat.

Still looking hard for a hole in the E-Ton's

Excellent point on the chain adjustment that is often overlooked.

Yep, I agree. The chain adjustment on XR70 dirtbike is much tighter with weight on it, so chain is always adjusted with more than riders' weight, for jumps, etc..

BTW, I just checked Eton's website. They show 3 B.C. dealers. If you know B.C., they've kinda got the province strangely covered. 1 dealer in Vancouver, one in Golden or Revelstoke, and the other in Trail. All 3 sound like small outfits that don't sell other major brands, or any other brands at all. I really like the sound of the 90 with reverse so much that I'm seriously considering one, but the price has to fit. I'd consider getting one shipped from AB. I like all the features it has, more than the Rap 80 even. But we'll get rid of the LT80 if we get this one. Rap 80 is still fun, but who knows what the kids will argue over riding if we get the Eton 90R.
