The steering on this thing gets pretty twitchy above 15 mph

I had to toe mine out and adjust the front shocks to the lowest setting. Handles real good at higher speeds now.

I have a 2004 Yamoto 150cc and have been trying to (gently) test it and break it in. I did the assembly myself so I did check most of the nut/bolts. No problems yet but I would like to help the front suspension. Any ideas as to what might fit and/or work. Can I cut a coil out? It's a family ride so it needs to be at least a little soft.

I havent had an ATV since I sold my Honda Foreman 350 4x4 in like 92 or so (I think).

Thanks for any help you could give.

Originally, I cut my coils but I wouldn't suggest others to do the same. I ended up putting a new pair of stock shocks back in because the lower shock collar was bending due to uneven pressure from the cut coil.

I've taken a look at the stock shocks for a Honda 90 and the Polaris Predator 90 and they are both 10" shocks just like the Chinese shocks. Soon as I get some time, and extra money, I'm going to take one of my shocks off and head down to their parts department and verify the mounting holes are identical. If they fit then they would definetely provide a softer ride.

P.S. The Raptor 80 shocks might be also be the same size.

ETON Viper 70cc Review-
I just bought one of the new 2005 Eton 70 Viper's which I believe is made in Taiwan/China. So far it's been a great quad. It has a 2 stroke engine with oil injection so I don't have to mix the oil. This quad has front drum brakes with a disc brake in the back. It pulls my 212 pounds up a 30 degree incline at 12mph. We haven't changed any of the default factory settings designed to slow the quad down for kids. It runs about 18mph on level grass with the limitations in place. I'm anxious to see what it will do once we remove the limitations. My 8 year old daughter will just have to wait until she is fully capable before we do. Anyone know of a certified safety course for kids in the chicago suburbs?

My daughter is average height for her age and she fits the quad perfectly. The frame is definitely larger than a normal 50cc frame so I think it's a 90cc frame with a 70cc motor. It steers easily and is extremely stable. I tried to tip it doing doughnuts and other erratic driving maneuvers and it never felt like it was tipping at all. I would highly suggest the 70cc model because most kids will out grow a 50cc very quickly and you can limit the 70cc to to act just like a 50cc or even less. My daughter will be able to use this quad for at least 3 or 4 years before she starts bugging me for a larger quad....I hope

The only complaints I have concern the seat and the thumb throttle lever. The seat is a little stiff but when you only weigh 50 pounds it probably doesn't matter. The throttle lever is a little to far away for smaller hands. I noticed a couple times she took her hand off the grip while she was pressing the throttle. Does anyone know if there are after market throttle levers with an upward-curved shape that will fit the Eton's? My brother has a programmable milling machine so I could get him to make a new lever but I'd rather just buy one if they are available.

*And before I get any lectures about letting an 8 year old ride a quad: She only rides under 100% parent supervision. Wears a helmut 100% of the time even when its 95 degrees outside. And it's only backyard riding until she is ready for more. No jumps, no ditches and no dangerous hills.

Looks like WhoDat is making a striking impression on the newest members LOL

As for the throttle lever... if you have access to a mill machine I'd take full advantage... lots of us could only dream of such an opportunity

**edit for some nasty mispelling.... sorry.... it's late...

I feel for you guys without access to machines, I work in a full service machine shop, I can't think of a machine that I would need that I don't have access to. We also get to order matl. for cost, but I don't need to very often because we can have any excess that lays around too long. The only thing wrong with this is my 2 kids are spoiled, don't worry what breaks DAD will fix it. I boight my son a marshin 150, same as the rest, and have a lot of good luck so far, will find out next week after riding the fire roads in wis. for 4 days

Ok, time to confess....

I recently bought a Shineray 110cc (road legal in the UK) quad....paid £820 registered and with 6 months road tax.
It is a Honda copy engine/'small' raptor styled quad. three fwd gears, and reverse - shaft drive....
I have seen the same quad for sale under various names, including Loncin....
So far, and I have owned it for ONLY one month and 7 days, and covered 270 miles, on and off road on it...........

Here are the faults so far............

• Air filter came apart at rubber flange (on first day)
• Carb not set up correctly - had to rejet the main and adjust needle (running far too rich)
• Manifold bolts were too short and poor quality, stripped some thread - re tapped and s/s bolts put in place
• Exhaust heat guard fell off - needed welding back on.
• Rear engine mount snapped - hole too close to edge of bracket - more welding....!
• Rear plastics fouled gear change, had to trim plastic to be able to change up.
• Headlight vibrated so much, kept blowing lamps (3 in a week), had to make additional bracket for it to stiffen it.
• Vibration blew tail light twice (in a week) – now fitted LED one
• Front ‘king pins’ on hubs are sloppy fit
• Two ‘brass’ grease nipples sheared on first use (replaced all 7 with better quality ones)
• HT lead was too long/badly routed and melted on exhaust
• 'chromed' Plastic top of dipstick has dropped off
• Front ‘hub cap’ has fallen off - badly fitted and wouldn't 'seat' correctly on castle nut.
• One rear wheel bolt is wrong size, has a nut on inside. (8mmX1.5 nut and bolt instead of 10mmX1.25 bolt into threaded hole)

Generally all the bolts are CR@P - replaced most with Stainless Steel equivelants.

Basically, if I didn't live so far away from the person (I won't name him on here, only cos he never made it) I bought it off, I would have driven it right through his front door and demanded my money back - (been very little help so far with 'full back-up' support, various emails not answered etc)
Good job I have the technical mind to sort it all out, and the equipment........

If you are considering buying one of these, or similar, then DON'T, that is unless you have full garage equipment, lathe, technical mind, free time, patience, etc etc etc.

It does 40 MPH flat out, vibrates like hell, has little suspension, is quite small (suit a 12 yr old)

On the plus side......when all the teething problems are 'sorted', it is a good laugh for the $$$, I don't think I really expected much, I never had the money to buy a 'proper' quad, so what the hell - you live and learn....!

Every day is a school day they say......!

JUST DON'T BUY IF YOU HAVE NO TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AS YOUR LOCAL MOTORCYCLE SHOP WON'T TOUCH THEM.....!
