01 Sportsman 90 rev limiter

yes it does, you should check page 140 of your owners manual, if you dont have
one you can go to Polaris.com and download the pdf version of it for free...
there is a jumper clip on the cdi box that you can remove..
under the front plastic above the carb near the steering post is the cdi..
from the manual:
1. Remove the cdi and its rubber mounting straps from the mounting tab, which
is located on the frame bulkhead near the steering post. It can be accessed
through the left fromt fender.
2. Remove the two screws from the jumper to remove or install the jumper. Reinstall
the screws.
3. Re-install the CDI and mounting strap onto the mounting tab

Actually, that year model does not have that jumper clip. That came about in 2003. The 2002's had a limiter that you could not over ride. IIRC, the 2001 and anything previous had a green wire to clip on the cdi box. If you have that green wire that loops out and back into the cdi box, you can clip it, and then tape off the ends to they don'e make contact. It'll then rev wide open.

I looked for it around the front of the four wheeler all i found was a black box with 5 or 6 wires coming out of it no green wire though and i saw a box with some heat drawing aluminum stuff on it

that black box with 5 or 6 wires is your CDI. Under the front fender above the air cleaner attached to the frame.
pull it off to make sure that there's no green wire... it's on the back of it, and not with the other wires.
if not, you may have teh same CDI used on the '02 models. In that case, you need to get a CDI from an ETON. It will have the green wire to clip, and will wire right in.
If you can, take the CDI off, snap a picture or 2, and then we can identify what type of CDI and rev limiter you have.

OK.. ya got the one like our '02 Scrambler 50 had.
Bad news... that one has a rev limiter that can only be over-riden by replacing the unit.
Some of the mini-quad hop up shops carry high performance units that will fix this, or if you can find a 5 wire (one 2wire plug and 3 individual wires) ETON unit with the looped green wire (cut it) you'll be set. It plugs right in with the exception of the grey wire to the throttle (that one's a safety over ride so that it cuts out spark when the throttle is at minimum in case of a stuck throttle cable or idle is turned up too high). Becareful... when we first put ours in, the idle was turned up so high (didn't know it because the old CDI limited it), that our Scrambler damn near shot out the back wall of the garage!
We got our CDI on ebay for $25, but the last one I saw went for over $80.
