Need help with LT80
#2
Try (2) things to do to see if it's a fuel problem: Remove the plug, spray gas into the cylinder, put the plug back and crank it around to see if it will fire.... or remove the air box boot and spray gas directly into the carb and crank it up. If it fires up it's a fuel delivery problem.

really hope I'm wrong, but don't think i am.... check compression. I went through exactly what you're describing and so have several others. It will not start no matter what you do if compression is too low. I'm struggling to remember minimum compression to start it, I think LT80(Jack) said 100-120. And decent compression is 140??
you need to check it with a gauge, finger over the hole won't cut it. good news is if I'm right, top end rebuild isn't that hard to do yourself, and won't cost much ($100 in parts/re-bore, or less). If you're not handy, I think a mechanic could easily do the job in 2 hours, and I'm being generous on the time.

You use spray WD-40 in a 2 stroke. Never starting fluid.
And you spray the seals and see if it revs up to check the crank seals.

Well, I guess its time for a new top end. So after the rebuild, what about blocking off the oil injection and using premix? Does that bottom end hold its own oil?
BTW I just got this quad. It's a 97 LT80, I paid $600 for it. Its in decent condition and ran pretty good, I thought. Anyway, it needs a little TLC so while its down for a new top end, I'm going to paint the frame, replace bushings, bearings, chain, sprocket etc. What kind of clutch mods are you guys doing to these quads? Any of you guys running a ported & polished head? Sorry for all the questions guys.

top end rebuild is a lot less work than you're proposing. if you're doing bearings then you're pulling WAY more stuff apart. but that would be a good time to paint it. why not just spend a couple of hours getting it running good again/top end rebuild, and then get more time riding?? just MHO. And I only offer it, cuz i've spent hours tweaking and fixing and maintaining ours to stock, and now I just want to get seat time for the kids and me!

Confuesedbuyer,
Oops, I should clarify "bearings" as wheel bearings. What I was trying to say is that this will be an excellent time to spruce up the chassis, maybe even new plastic if the wallet allows.

gotcha. I just would try to do as little as you have to, without cutting corners but at the same time not getting carried away. your time has to be worth something. and it's more fun to get out for more rides.just my .02.
