It is obvious none of you have ever promoted an event... There are lots of things that the promotor has to pay for up front.. like Liability INSURANCE, then there is security, safety crew, maybe a permit from the city for the event, the event crew etc... I'd hazard a guess that it is pretty much a given that the $75 gate wouldn't come close to covering costs.

Oh come on now... we pay $10/person ($40 for my family) and then anywhere from $15 to $25 per class, so we pay somewhere between $55 to $90 per race weekend. Normally, we bring our own food and drinks.
You're going to tell me that when they have 20 + classes (bikes and quads) with an average of 5 in each class, they they are doing this out of the goodnes of their own heart? makes me wonder where the cash payout for the pro riders comes from (some tracks, the pro class races free).
I'm not saying that they are getting Bill Gates rich, but if they were losing money, they'd lock the gates.
