Default lt 80 2 Stroke Tranny Oil

I was chatting with some old timers that raced and they claim they run standard Tranmission oil in the crankcase, says it works great, has any one else used Tranny oil??
works well they say with the clutch, low drag, just change it every few trips, has any one else used Plain old Tranny fluild?

in the gearcase yes I use it in the gearcase of my sons eton 90 and the gearcase of my ktm dirtbike these gearcases don't get nearly as hot as an automatic tranny and it has great lubricating properties

i've always heard it's a great cleaner, but i don't know about putting it in crankcase. I remember another guy telling me to run 1/2 a quart with my diesel fuel. a diesel mechanic told me it was okay to run to help seal pump(??...if i recall correctly), but not to use it with newer diesel cuz it seperates and is heavier, and you can't burn it out. also, some guys add a little 2-stroke oil to their diesel, which he said was okay but not necessary.

anyways, 10-40 motor oil works fine, so why chance it based on info that you're not sure about??and the LT80 has a dry clutch , it's not immersed in oil. i don't think these oldtimers know the LT80, maybe it worked for them on other stuff. if you're really worried, maybe run synthetic oil, probably still cheaper than tranny fluid.

When I used to ride dirtbikes (the old enduro style) I would always use tranny fluid in the gearcase. That was 70's model bikes though. Nowdays I use oil designed for that, especially for our race bikes that like to put a lot of stress on clutches. Considering that the tranny doesnt hold much in the LT I dont know if tranny fluid would have enough "cling effect" for the gears.

don't feel bad, i think it's a safe assumption to think the person would ask about putting tranny oil in gearcase. putting it in crankcase seems bizarre.
