Default lt 8o oil inj. question

The most common ways to tell are:

1- Does it have a little smoke coming out its tail pipe?

2 - How's does its spark plug reading look? For more details on reading your plug,
surf entire page and its pictures at the bottom of: - Press Here -

For me, I was never comfortable with factory oil injection systems. Others are. For us, we removed its Oil Injection system as soon as our Pred-90 was off warranty. That way, "I" control the amount of oil it gets.

Hope this helps....

think I might disconnect oil injector, I was talking to suzuki dealer he said premixing does not give the berings enough lubrication. I find that hard to believe. has anyone had that trouble?

I see a lot of talk about removing the oil injection system.
I can see how pre mixing would give you better control of the combustion process for any given situation. But that would only seem to make sense on a modded motor.
Are the injector pumps prone to failure? I just dont see any reason on a stock motor. Even if it does run a little rich is that not better than lean and possible engine damage. Any way dont most people err on the rich side of measureing when they mix?

i don't know the right answer, but i thot injecting was way easier and more convenient than pre-mixing, and also, injection varies the mix based on whether you're just idling, or flying at full throttle. i asked a bunch of long time mx'ers and they couldn't think of 1 single injection failure on a 2-stroke injected unit (including quad, dirtbike and marine). I'm sure there are some with stories to tell here, but i never had problems leaving mine connected. just my .02.

If you are comfortable with the factory Oil Injection system and fully trust it, then continue to use it.

One of my buddies has an Oil Injection system on his TB-250, and its been working great since day one. He has one of the first Trail Blaser 2 stroke units that hit the market, and trusts its factory Oil Injection system more then his own car engine. If wondering, he's an auto mechanic by trade. I have another buddy who uses the Oil Inection system on his E-Ton 90. For him, he pulls up to a gas pump on his Trail rides and doesn't have to worry about mixing.

For me, I grew up with pre-mix. Snowmobiles, chain saws, weed eaters, boats, etc. With pre-mix, I know the engine is getting the correct amount of oil when its getting gas. I did see a snowmobile engine blow when its Oil Injection system stopped working. It's small elastic band broke and within 2 minutes, its twin heads did a major melt down. Perhaps I'm from the old school and haven't learned to fully trust "the newer & better" Oil Injection systems? Perhaps I should change my way of thinking? But for now, I run pre-mix at 32:1 - 34:1 in our Pred-90, that only does trail riding. By doing this, I now sleep much better at night.

I surfed the below sites and found their 2-stroke info very informative.

Bottom line is..... Do what ever works best for you and your unique riding conditions.

Hope this helps...

Here's something I posted on another forum a many months go. Not too sure if removing the OI system will reduce the throttle control on the LT-80. If it does, it might be worth removing the OI to reduce pain on the "young rider". Hence, increasing overal safety level.

---------------------

My 9 year old son drives an '03 Predator 90. We removed its oil injection system (pump's white gear, lines, blocked carb hole, etc.) this spring and it works great. For us, we removed its split factory gas throttle cable and replaced with a single cable (from www.terrycable.com). By eliminating the pump's spring, I'd estimate 50% of the pressure was also removed from his thumb control lever. We now go riding 3+ hours at a time without him complaining of a sore thumb. To me, a sore thumb is more then a sore thumb. When a rider has a sore thumb, they tend to focus on eliminating the pain and less on what they are doing. Before, I used to watch my son look down as his sore thumb. He was always trying to re-position his hand so it wouldn't hurt as much. Now, he's got his eyes on the trail - and he's having much more fun.

If you do remove the Oil Injection sytem, ensure you also replace the factory split gas throttle cable as well. A single cable won't twist and accidentally lock the throttle cable in a fixed position.

Note: I should have done this mod the 1st month we got his Pred-90. It's well worth it - even with the small pain of mixing 32:1 in gas cans.
