Default Brakes on a mini?

My 9 year old son owns a 2002 Sundiro Ridge Runner 90. Its been a fantastic machine for the little dude, and he really rips on it. He has eaten the rear disc brake down to nothing, and the dealer I bought this from no longer carries the line. I heard a rumor that this bike may be the same as the big name mini 90's, with different plastics on it, but I'm not so sure. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where I can find some brake shoes for these machines. I've searched the web and the local dealers, to no avail. I have even thought about having the local Polaris dealer order me a new rear brake assembly from a Pred 90 and converting it, but I'd rather save the cash if possible. Anyone have any ideas on this. Can I adapt the Pred 90 shoes to fit the existing brake somehow? The kid scares the bajeezuz out of me running it with just front brakes. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Isn't the sundiro similiar to the E-ton? The polaris doesn't have disc brakes so the shoes will be different than the disc pads.I would take a look at all the mini lineups and see which ones have rear disc brakes. Most of them look the same to me.If worst comes to worst you may be able to reline your old brakes with some new braking material and just rivet it on.I wouldn't replace your disc with drum brakes, the disc is much superior and I'm sure you can find some pads that will work.

My mistake, I was thinking the Pred had disc on the rear. Maybe it was a DS 90 I was looking at. I have no access to a machine shop or anything, so whatever I put on has to be prefabbed before I get it home. I've been searching for the better part of the fall here trying to find something. Today when we were out riding, I met another rider coming up a downhill I was on and had to stop. The little dude was behind me and he did a hell of a job avoiding a collision with me and the other rider, but watching him take it over land, downhill with no rear brake, had my heart in my throat. Basically I gotta come up with a plan, before someone gets hurt. Thanks for the tip tho.

FifthHorseman,

If you have a digital camera, take lots of pictures of the disc brake system and post them on this forum. If you don't know how to post pictures, I can help you. Check your PM for my email address. I can post the pictures online and give you the URLs. By seeing pictures and possible measurements, many folks on this forum might be able to give you lots of "yeah - it looks like ???? brand" feedback.

And I agree with oldyeller. Disc brakes are much better then drum brakes. Especially for high speed trails and/or wet riding.

.

Fifth horseman, Call Cowtown USA, 1-573-885-6300. They keep a set of pads for the Sundiro on hand at all times. If that were to fail you could search for Madami dealers. They are the same quad. Replacement pads are EBC pads, and last a lot longer than the stockers.

No problem. I am curious though, if there are any other quads out there with similar pads. As similar as a lot of these quads are, surely there is another brand using the same pads.
The Sundiro/Madami's have manual rear disc brakes. Does anyone know of another mini that uses manual disc brakes???
