Okay Guys, I have the next problem!

Hello again guys,
Well I have a new problem with the LT80. Now remember, I've only removed the restrictors and put the needle on slot 3, no other mods have been done. When I start the quad to let it warm up it starts and idles perfect (I let it warm up for 5-8 minutes) once my boys start to ride the quad, it sputters a little then takes off and everything is fine, then once they come to a stop it will idel for about 10 seconds and then just die. After this starts I have to push the throttle all the way in to get it to start. Once it's started again, I have to continue giving it some gas until one of my sons gets on it and immediately gives the quad some gas, if he doesn't move fast enough then it cuts off again. I haven't touched anything since the removel of the restrictors. I'm quite sure it's something simple, I just don't know what it is.
Thanks

Did you move the needle in the carb? Is the airbox tight with no leaks. Michaels airbox developed a leak in the seams. The screws vibrated loose and it was sucking to much air. Just something simple to check.

Sounds like it's flooding a little bit. You might have to lower the needle???????? My boys dirt bike used to do that and I had to get a smaller main jet and it helped. But might be different problem.

Now before I take the carb apart, is there anything I should look out for?

Raising the needle will richen the mixture from about 1/4 throtle up. If it is starting fine cold (do you have to use choke?) and sputters I would say the idle is to rich. Not sure but would imagine you have an idle air bleed screw. Usually out will lean the idle mix (more air). Turn it out until rpm's drop then back in some. After this adjust the throttle stop screw (this adjust the height of slide in carb) for idle rpm. Carbs are magical things, learn as much as you can as to what effects what in the adjustment of them. Also I find that any adjustment of them will require adjustment of something else as above. Learning the proper order will save huge amounts of aggrevation.Text

Do your kids ride the quad wide open most of the time, or do they ride at mid-throttle most of the time? If their riding around at mid-throttle mostly check what the plug looks like, sounds like its getting fouled to me. The needle setting is mainly for mid throttle so you might have to adjust it down or move the clip up.

When it idles before it dies will it speed up or slow down that you can tell? Has the temp changed alot?

When I first start it up (with the choke) it will stay running the entire time I let it warm up. I then take the choke off and let my kids start riding. They ride 75% at WOT (they are fearless ) I've removed the throttle stop screw(you are talking about the screw on the handle bars, right??) Should I return the carb needle back to the original position?? I really didn't think that I would have these may issue's with a new quad, I only removed the restrictors and now it won't run right! Does the oil injection have anything to do with it? I would like to leave the engine stock for a while, BUT have it running perfect, so that I won't have any more issue's with it.
