Kazuma 150-HELP!!
#1
Hi Everybody
- I'm new to this forum and hope there's somebody out there that can help. My husband and I purchased a Kazuma 150 for our son and gave it to him on 5/14. The second day it was out of commission because it was leaking oil - the gasket had broke. It had to then sit for the next 3 days until we got a replacement and he managed to get about another week of riding out of it before the battery went completely dead. We called the outfit where we purchased it from (in Illinois) and was told it needed to be charged. Still after charging the battery it won't start without a jump. The next problem was the gears broke. So again the bike's out of commission until the new parts arrive 3 days later. More frustration fuels the fire after realizing the wrong cover was sent and we couldn't find anything locally as an immediate replacement. Again we called the dealer back, they send new parts and the bike's still sits out of commission. My 12 yr old son had planned on taking it with over this past holiday weekend to show it off to family and friends but he's had to sit on it in our garage more than he's been actually able to ride it. The parts came in over the weekend when we were gone and were installed last night. The bike still won't start without a jump and now it only goes in forward - there's no reverse. I called highrpmracer today and was told I can send the whole casing-gears etc back and they will build one for us there and send it out. My husband wants to return the whole bike (which I have no idea if we can do) because he is so angry and frustrated (understandably) - I am so majorly disappointed my son has not hardly been able to ride it and I just want the problem solved. The guy had told me these bikes are "gear sensitive" and will break if shifting happens when the bike is not completely stopped - Of course my son insists that he was completely stopped each and every time he shifted (I realize the source) - but the short amount of time he actually has rode the bike makes me think. Since we've had other problems as well besides the gears - I just don't know - this is really frustrating!!! Are all bikes prone to problems like this or is my son being to hard on it or did we get a lemon or do we have to face the music we bought a complete pile of junk??
Is there anybody out there that has had a similar experience or has any feedback - positive and/or negative?
Thanks for your time!

You should not be installing the parts under warranty. Bring the machine back and let the dealer fix it. There are problems with the trans, but if done perfectly which is hard all the time for kids there shouldn't be a problem. The gear shifter should never be forced either. Best of luck with it, but I would have taken it back to the dealer asap.

We live in Wisconsin and we purchased the quad online from a dealer in Illinois - This poses a huge problem since there are no Kazuma dealers in our area. We couldn't afford to spend the extra money to buy a name brand bike from a local dealer so we are pretty much s.o.l as far as local support. - - Thanks for your input!!

I've had my Kazuma Dingo 150 for a couple of months now and have no problems to report. My neighbor bought one about the same time and he had transmission problems immediately, the only difference I could see is that a kid was riding that one.
chubbysdad - The warranty I got only included parts, not labor, so I don't see why a person should not install the free parts themselves.

Kazoooooma, Yes I understand that, I just meant if they had problems that they cant figure out or fix themselves. It was just an Idea.

Thanks everyone for your input and suggestions!
I was SO FORTUNATE to get in touch with the Redcat/Kazuma dealer in Hastings, MN. Jim totally offered his support to help us out AND we didn’t even buy the bike from him!! The fact that he took time out of his day to correspond with me and talk to me on the phone as well is absolutely remarkable! His time, efforts and excellent trouble shooting skills helped us to figure out (what ended to be a simple fix) the problem and FINALLY my son can ride again!!! As I said before, we could not get the bike to start on it’s own – only with a jump. We charged the battery, it wouldn’t start. Took the battery in to have it tested – was told it was perfectly fine. So in our minds we eliminated the battery as the cause so it must be something more major. Jim suggested we make double sure it wasn’t the battery because crazier things have happened. He told us to hook our lawnmower battery up to the bike just to see. It fired right up!! It was the stinkin battery after all! Needless to say we flew to the battery store and my son is on top of the world (me too)!!!!
The service we received as a “noncustomer” of his was phenomenal. Do I ever wish we had found his dealership before we made our purchase! A HUMUNGOUS THANKS to Jim for all of his help and to those of you out there looking to purchase, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend you seek out this dealer! I would LOVE to post their website and/or phone number but I’m new to this forum and don’t want to get in trouble if I’m not supposed to – If I can – somebody please let me know!
NOW – we just have to keep our fingers crossed that nothing else goes wrong with the bike and my son can finally get in some riding time! These first 3 weeks have been frustrating to say the least but I’m grateful to know there are good people out there willing to help!!
P.S - I forgot to mention the reverse is now working. The replacement was not installed properly so we are thankfully over that snafoo as well.

chubbysdad - I disagree. This is an open forum and it's not even very obvious who runs it. I'm sure Raceway knew what they were getting into when they setup the forum and probably expect for other dealers names to be posted. Let's not try to make anyone feel bad about sharing information freely. Now if Raceway wants to plaster their name all over the forum and create areas like "Discuss Raceway products" then I'll change my tune.
