Default Eton 90 oil question

My kids ride their Eton 90 only a few hours a week. I've been looking at the oil holder and it does not appear to be going down. Just how much oil is used and is it possible that the injector is broken and not mixing the oil? What would be the signs to look for...it appears to be running fine.

Default Eton 90 oil question

.

One of the quickest ways to determine if a factory OI system is working properly is a "spark plug" test. Pull the plug and look at its tip. It must be "in the range" of beer bottle brown. If it looks good, run wide open for 200 ft (or so) and turn off the engine via kill switch. Don't let off on the gas as it rolls to a stop. Check the spart plug color again. It must be in the range of beer bottle brown. Do this same test for 3/4, 1/2 and 1/4 throttle ranges. Again, beer bottle brown is the optiminal color. BTW: This also determines if your carb has properly set jets. Another method is checking for smoke coming out its tail pipe. A 2 stroke should smoke a little - unless perfectly tuned with premix and proper size carb jets.

If the plug is "white", then don't do anymore tests. White means running too lean (aka: HOT). Probably due to NO Oil going into the system or improper set carb jets. If it had great spark plug color before and you didn't change the air filter, reeds or pipe, then its a "NO OIL" problem. I've read that OI system is set in the range of 50:1 to 100:1 range (depending on the engine's RPM). If this is true, then your OI system will burn VERY Little Oil on short rides. Also, check the "shape" of your OI tank. If the tank is very wide in the middle (compared to its bottom and top shape), this oil level "in the middle range" will go down very slowly. Much slower then if the Oil was at the top or bottom.

Hope this helps....

Default Eton 90 oil question

I ride a Honda CR 125 Motocross bike, and mix my pre-mix manually using a ratio rite cup. I use maybe 2-2 1/2 cups of oil mixed
at 32:1 per tankfull of gas. My point is... a good running 2 stroke wont use LOTS of oil.

As stated above, a nice coca brown coloration to the spark plug is a good sign of a properally tuned carb. Wet or carbon black is a rich condition.... and white or light grey is a lean condition.

Im not an expert, just passing on some of my guidelines that have worked for me in the past.

I just purchased a Eton 70 for my son, and so far it runs great... it appears to be jetted spot on. great little quad.

These things use very little oil with the factory setup.

Park it somewhere flat and mark the tank where the level is, then have the kids ride it around a while. Check it again when there through and see how much it moved and you'll have an idea about how much it uses.

Default Eton 90 oil question

I just purchased an Eton 70 for my kids two weeks ago and the first tank of pre-mix I ran out completely before adding more gas. Now I'm on the 3rd tank and it is smokin pretty good still. The oil reservoir is still more than 2/3 full. My dealer said to check the oil level every five tanks. So I don't think it's going to use much. We have put about 7-8 hours on it so it seems to be good on gas also. I would say if there is a good trail of blue smoke when taking off then your oil injection is working ok. Also, when I set the CDI to 1 (was 0) is seemed to run a little more unrestrained throttle wise. It didn't bog as much. I am surprised how quick this 70 is. I set the CDI on 3 to see the increase in speed and it will be a long time before my kids can ride it on this setting.
