well... according to Kelly Blue Book, it doesn't look like the resale values are so much better on the Suzukis or Hondas than the Polaris Quads...

2002 LT80 new was about $2300
2002 LT50 new was about $1900
2002 TRX90 new was about $2650
2002 Polaris Scrambler 90 new was about $2200
2002 Polaris Scrambler 50 new was about $1800

KBB trade in values for the above

LT80 - $1040 - 55% loss
LT50 - $855 - 55% loss -
trx90 - $1185 - 55% loss
Scrambler 90 - $1000 - 55% loss
Scrambler 50 - $880 - 51% loss

Retail Value for the above

LT80 - $1600 - 30% loss
LT50 - $1350 - 29% loss
trx90 - $1805 - 32% loss
Scrambler 90 - $1550 - 30% loss
Scrambler 50 - $1385 - 23% loss

Just thought I'd point this myth out.

Ya.. your mileage may vary.. I just picked up a clean '02 Scrambler 50 for $550..deals are out there, but KBB is a good basis to follow.

My daughter is 7 she has been riding a mini 50cc this year and has outgrown it she weighs about 70lbs.. Are the 90cc to big in size and power?? The chasis seem to be about the same size from the 50 to 90 cc in the Eton's and Kymco's. I want one she can ride for a few years and was thinking a 90cc and keep it governed down. Thoughts??

Thanks...

I'd check local restrictions first but I'd go with a 90.

I bought my kids a TRX90 and I have to say its been a very good choice. First the ATV is very stable and easy to ride. My kids (7 and 13) both ride the quad. I have noticed that the handle bars are a bit low for my 13 year old -- he is really on the top end for use of this quad -- my 7 year old is the bottom. My kids liked the Yamaha Raptor look over the Honda look -- the Raptor looks so much better, but I went with the advice of a friend and bought the Honda for its name over the looks. The TRX90's top end speed is about 38-40 mph and handles extremly well in mud and sand. The design is great with the air box tucked under the seat with a snorkle going upward toward the handle bars. I have not had any water in the box whatsoever. This is in total contrast to my friends kids ATV where the air box is built under the handle bars. When the kids hit water -- on the Yamaha Badger it goes straight to the filter, whereas is flows around the TRX90. The front bumper on the TRX90 is weak at best. I had to replace the bumper a few days ago.

Scramblur, please stop confusing the issue with facts. Now if you have some biased opinion based upon no experience, that would be fine to share.

I am not really concerned with local restrictions as I live in IOWA and under 12 kids are not allowed on any state managed ATV parks. And they may raise the age limit next year which will keep my 12 year old from ridding as well. I am leaning towards the 90,Kymco or the 90 Eton with reverse.

Thanks for your advice it is very much apprecited.!!!

i would go with the lt80 or trx 90. The lt80 is a great quad, great power and reliability. they are all tried and true minis that can hold up. with the honda, you are getting a bulletproof engine, honda reliability, and more room to grow vs. the 80. if i were you i would pick up an lt80 for my kid in a heartbeat.

Is the Suzuki an fully automatic? And is it the same physical size as the Honda and what is the top end speed? What engine does it have 4 stroke or 2 stroke. Are the foot rests fully enclosed??

Thanks for your input!!

the suzuki is fully auto. the honda is wider and longer. im not sure about the top speed for the honda. id have to guess 35-40. im pretty sure its a fourstroke and it has half floorboards/footpegs.

The Honda is turning out to be the right choice for the kids - good size, great stability, plenty of power (I weigh about 175 and it'll move me around easily). It's got a 4 stroke, half foot boards, and its a 4 speed and no manual clutch. The Honda gets my vote for sure...
