Will the Raptor 80 Top end (cylinder, piston, etc) fit on the Raptor 50?

Ok, I am not sure on that one. Think about this: even if you were able to do this it's only gonna get you to top speed a bit quicker as your working with the same gear ratio unless someone knows what to do about this. At this point I have accepted that there is only so far I am willing to go with this 50 and next year I'll move my daughter up. This is a good little starter machine as it was designed, built and bought to be.

bugme & atvingnc,

to answer the question about the rev limiter on the dynatek cdi. the information that came with it says 16,000 rpm rev limiter. I dont think that the motor will make that many rpms. in my garage in neutral i have seen it make over 12,000. It definitely rattles your teeth when your riding it. Unfortunately i dont have a tach that i can look at while it is in motion, so i cant tell you how many rpms it is making while you are riding it. i specifically spent the extra money to buy this cdi because an extra 1,000 rpms didnt sound like it was going to make a very big difference and i cant stand that noise of it bouncing off the rev limiter. the dynatek part # is a dfs7-19. i am hoping that this motor wont even make enough rpms to break something or i am at least hoping the valves will float first.

what is the nozzle i have heard mentioned. i replaced all the gaskets when i did these upgrades but i did not change the o ring on the intake. i will check that. the quad does not take off from idle to full throttle at all. you have to ease into it. idle is non existent as of now. the carb looks like there is one more adjustment on the opposite side of the air/fuel mixture and idle adjustment. any help greatly appreciated.

thanks

Moto, best I can tell ya is I will be finishing up this weekend and I will post an entire parts list that I used as well as the end result.

Oh, and by the way I forgot to mention that the reason you supercharger is on backorder is they just shipped me the only one they had in stock......

bugme,

"I also moved the circle clip down to the last position and then played with the air/fuel and idel screws to the point that it runs great with the exception of idel where it will still idel for about 30 seconds and then die".

is that the circle clip on the needle set (slider needle valve). when I changed my slider I didn't happen to notice that there where extra notches for moving the needle valve up or down.

MTCSIP,

I believe that an 80 cyl. will work on a 50. same crankcase, same piston stroke just different bore.

motobob,

The fuel level in the carb. bowl will also affect if the carb. runs lean or rich.

My son's 50 will stall if you go from idle to full throttle. but if go from idle to 1/2-3/4 throttle its fine or give it just a little throttle to get the RPMs just above idle and then open it up its fine. my son has gotten good at working (feathering) the throttle to get around the problem but I really need to work on why it is happening.

Moto, I am definetly rowing in the same boat as you. The nozzel and new gaskets are what I will be installimg over the weekend....unless I just stay home today....no I can't do that. Well, like I said I'll let you know what the outcome is I moved the needle jet down to the last position and everythig is great except the idle it'll idel for about 15-30 seconds and die. I thhink between the new gaskets and nozzel we'll get her fixed but stay tuned.
Now alls I have to do is figure out how to get the stage three nitrous working properly.....

I have been following this thread ever since we got my daughters Raptor 50. After talking to Raptor80Racing I also ordered new jets, K&N filter, exhaust, ProComm cdi and the other usual stuff and at first had a problem with it idling but got that issue resolved. The only problem that I am still having with it is from dead start and giving it full throttle and a little bit climbing hills. Other than that my daughter is happy with it. She didn't touch it for about 6 weeks and then we went for a ride in the woods near our house and now all she keeps asking about is can we go out to the trails. She was riding it last night for a bit and it idled great and had o.k. takeoff when just easing into the throttle but if you clamp the throttle it just wants to die. No matter if I played with the air mixture screw or the low speed circuit it doesn't do anything. The ony time that I was able to grab a full throttle right from the get go was when I just replaced the exhaust and cdi and left the jetting what it was from the factory.

Time to just play with it a little bit more. Might pull some of the roller bearings out in the rear end but really don't thing that will help out with the hesitation on take off.

so yes i have done all the above mentioned changes to my sons 50 and yes airfule mixture screw had to be adjusted in terms of the the bogging or dieing if you dump the throtel i do recall somebody posted why that is i do know there is a reason and there is no fix its not really a problem its due to the simple carb and something look through the old posts its in here happy riding
