2 stroke smoke
#1
Can anyone tell me why some 2 strokes smoke worse tha others? My sister has a 100cc Extreme machine that does not smoke at all. I looked at a used Eton the other day and smoked really bad. Is it the carb thats out of adjustment? Just curious..

.
The 3 main factors for smokey 2 stroke engines are:
1 - Improperly set carb. A rich "Gas & Air" mixture will smoke more then a beer bottle brown spark plug mixture.
2 - Too much oil. Too much pre-mix or the factory OI system is pumping out too much. aka: Rich Oil mixture.
3 - The brand of oil. I've been told that mineral based oils smoke really bad - all the time. Synthetic base oils smoke very little. Hybrid / Mixed based oils tend to smoke at start up, then becomes less smoke as the engine warms up.
When comparing the smoke amount of 2 strokes, ensure you are comparing their spark plug colors and oil brands as well. And, their Oil brand is the same. Thus, comparing apples to apples, or oranges to oranges.
Hope this helps....
