Default LT 50 is dogish...help!

My daughter has a mid 80's Suzuki LT 50 and I get it to barely move. I cleaned out the carb...it seems to run well until you give it throttle. It seems like it wants to go, but it's very boggy. I don't believe it to be a fuel problem. Also I barely feel exhast coming out the muffler...is that normal? Would the transmission oil have anything to do with it?? It was running and driving fine a couple of weeks ago. Any advice is helpful. Thanks from Audrey.

.

Couple of things to check:

- Is your pipe plugged with carbon? For some, they build a very large bomb fire and stick their pipe inside it. This extreme heat removes years of carbon build-up. I know this is done on the LT80 pipes. Perhaps it can be done to your LT50 pipe as well???

- If it has a CVT Tranny, is the clutch rollers warn down? If those are original rollers, they might have flat spots on them.

- How's its engine compression? If you can, perform a PSI test and provide us the average numbers? Most perform a test in cool AM and hot afternoon. Sometimes, there a big difference between these numbers.

- Does it has a spark arrestor? If so, it might be plugged.

- Tranny oil (dirty or clean) shouldn't bog an engine down that much. Yes, dirty oil will slow it down. But not bring it to its knees.

- If you can, lift all 4 wheels and if if any of its brakes are stuck. I know, sounds stupid. But, one should check anyway.

- If you haven't already, install fresh gas. I've been told that gas starts losing its octaine 25 days after being pumped at a gas station. You might even have water (even from normal condensation) in its gas tank.

- If it has a gas filter, I'd change it (if it hasn't been changed within 1 year) - just to make sure it isn't plugged.

Try these ideas. If it doesn't work, you'll at least know what "is" working properly.

Hope this helps...

I would say the exhaust is coked up as well..they block up at the head port.with the pipe off the port through to the piston should be around as big as a chubby pencil and if it's coked then chances are the pipe has as well...the best way to clean them out is tremove the baffle ando fire up an Oxy accetaline cutting head . out in the open heat down the exhaust inlet until it gets a glow on then fire through your oxygen..not to cut it off but to make a jet enjine out off the pipe..watch that you dont overheat it and let it cool before touching it..does puting the choke on change the symptoms? .If the main jet is blocked it will still run with the choke on once hot.

Has she been riding in dusty conditions?

Check the air filter it can cause symptoms that you just described.

I figure that you have already did this since you cleaned the carb.

For a quick check on the exhaust, loosen the bolts where the pipe attaches to the head creating a exhaust leak and run it.

If it runs ok, clean the exhaust out like the previous mentioned solutions.

Do not run the bike for more than 30 seconds with the exhaust loose because the motor will be running extremly lean.

THANKS!

I took the first suggestion and pulled the muffler off...that was the problem. I removed the spark arrestor from the backside and is was nearly fully plugged. Anyway I left it out, now it runs great.
Thanks for all the input.
My daughter is back having a ball again.
