I was planning on pulling out the brass ring (governor) and I was thinking that while I had it apart I could/should put something better in there. I am totally new to working on motorcycle/atv engines & trannys, can I do this my self w/o ait tools? Overall I am impressed by this little quad.It seems like it has a lot more to give power wise . I got this for my daughter (7yrs old) for christmas and as of last weekend she drives around with pinned all the time, so the time is coming to make it faster.

If you can turn a wrench a little you should be fine. It's not hard at all.For what it's worth we still run the stock variator on our race Cat and it's plenty fast enough. But I hear they make a big difference. Maby 1 day I blow the extra myself and get 1 also.

I can definately turn a wrench, but how do you break loose the nut on the outer face? that thing is imposible, I can't get a grip on anyything to keep the whole thing from spinning. Yes I had the cover off once already but i ended up just putting it back on.

no problem just put a rag between the belt and pully then use eaither a 3/8 or 1/2 inch inpact wrench, just make sure its on the highest torque when removing, installing use low torque so you won't break the fan and don't forget to use locktite.

When at the track with no airtools I have rapped the socket with a light hammer or other tool a few times and the impact from a few hits loosens it up. turn the socket up towards the carb and tap down on it being careful not to hit anything else. BLUETICK if you ever wanna try one out let me know I can send you one of our spares to try. It makes a difference, I have done back to back 300 feet drags at the track.

I will have to try the hammer method, with the rag between the belt and pulley. In less than two weeks, I will have the $$ to order the outer face and clutch springs.I really don't want to have to mess with the rollers.
My daughter loves to ride in the dunes, so I got her some paddles. The size they were listed at was 18 x 10,the actual measurements are 16 x 10.The difference from the stock tire size (19") was enough to lower her top speed, but boy the acceleration improved, now she needs/wants the top speed higher.I am probably going to order here some trail riding tires also, the stock tires are just not that good.
