250 falcon problem

You can get them at almost any local ATV dealer. Also from Dennis Kirk, Motorsports.com, Ronnies Mail order.com, Rockymountainatv.com etc. Most are called thumb assist, thumb buddy or throttle extender and come in universal models. Prices range from $12 on up.

All,
I got it all now. I will be complete...after market 32 mm Mikuni, performance muffler, K&N and my new twist throttle...new battery...stock keeps running down...I should have it all ready to roll tomorrow. I praying for a home run! The carb is much bigger than I thought it would be! Looking forward to the mods. He took weight off the rollers too. It better work

I've done it. I got the carb, K&N filter and pipe. The fuel line for the new carb is bigger than the old one. I put the old one back on...I'm just wondering if it is getting enough gas? Also, when I first did it, it ran much better. However, when I hit the gas hard without RPMs, it dies or almost dies until I throttle it. Then, after riding awhile (which the response is so much better) it seems to miss at higher RPMs. I put a new plug in and it did the same? Help. SEADAWG

Try dropping down a jet size or two. Mine did the same because it was running too rich from too large a main jet. Check the color of your plug. Black is rich, real white is too lean and tan is optimum. As you set your main jet lower and lower the sputter will go away. Try at least two or three jet sizes down and check your plug.

Also,
How did you brace your new carb? I'm wondering if that manifold will hold? I put strong rubber underneath it? SEADAWG
Also...the carb's main jet is 200? What is yours now...a 190, 180??? When it started cutting out, it felt electrical and not carb related. That was how your ran too. Thanks...SEADAWG.

My engine cutting out felt electrical. Look at the spark plug and it will tell you if it is too rich. I am currently running a 195 main jet. You may have to go to a 180 or 190 with the 32mm carb as opposed to my 34mm with the 195. I never got a chance to make a support for the carb before the manifold broke. I made a new intake out of a solid piece of aluminum on my lathe/milling machine and attached the carb to it with a piece of radiator hose. The radiator hose will hold up to the heat, gas and stress as it's reinforced internally. If it does break I can just cut another two inch long piece off and replace the old one. Been riding it around and no problems yet. Holding up to a lot of bouncing and vibration with no signs of failure.

Hiya, I've been poring over this thread and the excellent info i8amm has written up (thankyou).
I've had the carby off this quad a dozen times trying to sort out the same problem hadaveha had. The quad idle's fine, but bogs as soon as you apply throttle.
The last time I had it off I took the auto choke out and put it back in again after blowing it out with compressed air, and the bike actually revved up properly, but I stopped the bike to screw everything back together properly thinking I'd solved the problem and once back together it did the same old thing again.
I'm thinking therefore that its the automatic choke thats the problem. It fits fairly well with the symptoms.
1. idles ok, when you hit the accellerator it revs then bogs down and won't hold high revs.
2. if you cover 3/4 of the airbox it will rev up ok (a bit lumpy but at least its revving)
3. if I spray wetstart into the intake it revs up ok (again a bit lumpy)
This leads me to believe its running lean. I've blown out the main jet several times and it makes no difference that I can tell, I can see through it and can see the hole is clear (when I take it apart).
There was a green sticky like slime in the float bowl and I've cleaned it as best I can, but there's a lot of it still there. I suspect its old fuel but I don't know. Its not blocking the jets though and it was there when the bike was running fine.
I should say, the circumstances that led to the problem. The intake manifold was cracked. I glued it up and ordered a new one. Then on the weekend we took it for a ride, the radiator blew at the Y join and that ended the day's riding. The day I worked on it to fix the radiator (poly pipe fittings sorted that out) the manifold arrived (they sent the wrong one) so I took the carby off to try and fit that. While I was at it I opened up the airbox intake a bit (took the plastic cover off the blocked off half) and opened up the exhaust (cut the end off the muffler, drilled several new holes in the back baffle, and then cut off and welded on a larger outlet pipe). Seeing as I'd done that and had the carby off I moved the needle circlip down one notch (to the bottom notch). I put it all back together, and thats when the problem started. I figured I'd better tell the whole story in case there was something obvious I'd done wrong.
Right, so at the moment I have a sick non-running quad. I'm guessing its the auto-choke but I don't know for sure.
What do I try next? Can I disable the auto choke?
