nitrox,
On your buddy's carb when you go to verify the float adjustment also remember to check the needle and seat. Make sure it does not have any debris keeping it from closing when it is required to by the float. Maybe install an inline fuel filter to pick up the plastic flakes that some of these Chinese quads have in their fuel tanks. I know mine has them.
Good Luck.

smb05,
Thanks for the good info my brother just got a Redcat 150 and 5 hrs in to it he is having the same problem. Looks like the carbs are a stock never tested carb so tweeking is a must, your info is a god sent. So out the gate it's find a new air filter, then check the plug and jet as needed.
Thanks for the heads up

Hay smb05,
Just a update on my and my brothers Redcat150cc we put Uni filters on and re-jeted from a 111 to a 120, re adjusted the air/fuel screw it runs over the top now. Now we burn up the trails.
THX for the jeting info etc.
PS The Boreem 150 & Redcat 150 must be the same, looks like all the parts are interchangable.

nitrox,
That's great. Glad to hear the filter and jetting worked out for you. I know it made a difference on the performance of our quad.
To my knowledge, most of the Chinese quads are very similar. The Boreem and the Redcat are pretty much interchangeable. You can probably by parts for either one and get the same results.
Good Luck.

What kind of carbs do you guys have. I have the 150 GY6 motor in a Marshin 150 with, yhis carb, thttp://www.mikuni.com/oem_components/l_atv.jpghis carb,
It came with an 85 Main Jet. I am installing a K&N soon and i thought I would go uo 2 sizes on the main. Does that sound right??

cvc42,
Your best bet is to change the air filter first. Once that is done start taking plug readings. You most likely will have to rejet, or you may get lucky and not have to. If it turns out you have to rejet try to get them from a local shop just in case you need to exchange jets. Be sure to check with the shop to see if they will allow you to exchange the jets, mine did. When you purchase your jets get at least 4 or 5 so you don't have to make too many trips to the cycle shop. If you are having any idling issues go up one or two jets sizes on your slow jet (pilot jet).
White plug = Lean
Black plug = Rich
Tan to Brown = Right on
Here are your carb circuits and what they operate.
Carburetor Circuits:
Air Screw = Idle to 1/8 Throttle
The Pilot (Slow Jet) = 1/8 to 1/4 Throttle
The slide valve = 1/8 to 1/2 Throttle (Rarely ever replaced)
Jet needle = 1/4 to 3/4 Throttle
Main Jet = 3/4 to Full Throttle
Good Luck.

My bro,s and my Redcat 150 has a CV type carb marked PD24J it is a Keihin knock off we rejeted from a #110 to a #120 but I have seen numbers on this forum from #127.5 up to #135 this will depend on the air flow through your motor (air filter restrictions and exhaust restrictions) Just changing to a K&N filter or UNI Foam filter could make a difference in what jet to use.
We went to a local motorcycle shop and took our info and they gave us a start point and it was on target.

I took my carb off and cleaned the jets on my Redcat 200. It is idling much better now. However, I notice the engine bogs if I punch the throttle from idle. Once I'm riding and rpm's are higher than idle there is no bogging. I'm still concerned about the engine running hot. The exhaust pipe turns red @ the exhaust manifold. I don't want to ruin the engine if this is not normal. I read this somewhere can anyone tell me if this is correct "With a lean (higher than optimum air-to-fuel ratio) condition, the motor's aluminum piston will reach its melting point, and begin to disintegrate. With a rich condition (low than optimum air-to-fuel ratio) the motor is quite safe from burndown, but also will run sluggish and be down on power." a friend of mine told me the reverse was true.
