I recommend you talk to the folks ar raptor80racing.com. They know the scoop on the yamah 80 carb problems.

This is an ancient post and those answering didn't know what they were on about. The Yam 80 is notorious for valve clearances closing up. William Fox was dead right about this being the problem and the valves are set in the normal way, get the piston on TDC on the compression stroke, unscrew the caps covering the adjusters, and set clearances to 0.003" with a feeler gauge.

As far as I know, the carb on the 80cc Yams is an absolutely standard issue slide carb, and doesn't give problems unless you get dirt or water through from the tank. Why change it?
