Thank you for all of the input! He is 67 lbs and 4'2". So he is a big guy. He has been riding the 50 for over a year. What about sticking with the Yamaha and getting the 80? I know there are a lot of aftermarket parts for it, but what about straight from the dealership? We would like to put a pipe on it there, but leave it stock for awhile.

We are open for others, but yeah we all ride blue! Ha! We are also looking at a used LT80 that someone has for sale. Used bikes just scare me. The few $$ that you save you usually have to dump right back in. Unless of course it has a bunch of aftermarket, but this one doesn't. I wish we would have found this forum before we bought him the little snail 50. It looks good, but on the sand it is too slow. The honda minis look like minis. I guess that is the only reason we stayed away from them initially.

The LT80 won't make a real good duner in stock form. You might consider that. The Pred90 does decent but a few mods help it too. Haven't been around many Honda 90's.

I started my kid on her 90 right before her 6th birthday. The first thing I did was run out and mod it because I got tired of pushing. You need the extra power for sand. Trust me, don't even THINK about a 50. Once they start hitting slopes, the 50's are worthless.

Thanks. I wish we would have known not to waste our $$ on the 50. There goes $1800 down the drain. We are going to look at the trx90 tonight. It is a hard pill to swallow at $2600, but I guess if it lasts us for a few years we are good. We have had a few families at the dunes that really hated their pred 90s. I wish there was some way we could have him test drive them. No dealer will let him ride anything over a 50 and that is still pushing it being that he isn't 6 yet! As long as we are responsible and sensible parents he will do just fine. The dealerships sell Polaris as well, so we will check those out too. Do you ride in the sand with her 90? Paddles? Pipe? Thanks!

First off it apears that most of you are not familar with where he will be riding, THE OREGON DUNES. Raptor legs the lt 80 in stock forn with paddles does more than just fine, in the sand its the best. Most of the sand there is steep and not like what you would find in Texas. Now to his size, that is where you got to bite the bullet if he keeps growing and keep upgrading sizes and not buy a," he will grow into it later" quad. Most quads do fine in the sand until they hit a hill. My buddies kid , for instance , had a modified raptor 80, pipe jet and k+n filter a little bit of top end motor work. on flat riding it was alitttle quicker than my sons and daughters lt 80s however up any hill the littlle lt 80s will smoke almost any other 80 or 90 that hasn't been worked over. Now There are cobras and other exotic minis out there but we are talking about the average joe quads.

Thanks for a local view. He isn't racing it and we definitely don't take it on the trails. We are sand riders only at this point. I am glad to hear that the LT80 would work well. He is an agressive rider and wants to do much more than dink around on the beach. The hills are the worst, especially in the summer when the sand is so soft. I would hate to get into the same situation with another dogged out quad!

Is steep or is not steep????? And I would take the Pred over an LT80 anyday just for the better suspension. Do you want to get by or have a sand machine? A pipe, clutch kit and cdi do wonders for the Pred. The 80 may fit your kid better though as they are a little smaller.

Let us know how it turns out if you get the TRX.
