I just converted it over to pre mix oil by blocking off the oil injection pump. It was smoking a little bit before, but now there is quite a bit of smoke coming out of the tail pipe. Any suggestions as to what the smoke is a result of?

to much oil. what are you mixing it at? also look at the plug and see what color it is if its white its to lean you will smoke a piston if its wet you are running to much oil.

I run
32-1 in air cooled
20-1 in water cooled

 

i am running Klotz R50 @ 32:1....I think it was bad gas (previous owner). Why are you mixing ratios different for air or water cooled? I thought the LT80 was air cooled?

Did you change the main jet in the carb? The lt80 is jetted on the rich side.You might can go down one or two main jets sizes. Check the plug when you do this.

the R-50 uis a very good oil. 32:1 is correct.

Yes the LT80 is air cooled.

 

water cooled bikes take less oil then aircooled, a water cooled bike needs less oil because it it has water to keep it cool as for air it only has air to keep it cool which isn't as sufficant as water cooled 32-1 is good for the lt80

make sure your air cleaner is not all plugged up smoke is good not bad as long as you don't keep fouling plugs

I have both air cooled and watercooled 2 strokes thats why I put in both

 

20:1 is a richer mix than 32:1. the first # is gas, second # is oil. just thought you would like to know. that is kind of important.

hehe, sounds like your just giving her more oil than the injection system was. Installing new rings can't hurt for peice of mind though. Out of curiosity, did you switch brands/model of oil going from the injector to pre-mix? That could account for something too...
